Americans aren't allowed to have a copy of every cracking/security gizmo out there even if they're in the secuity business. It's illegal to own/buy/sell such gizmo's under DMCA. AFAIK there's no special loophole for FBI. Can someone charge the FBI under DMCA? Does it have to be internal affairs?
Maybe the next time a security expert within the FBI travels to a democratic country, he could be arrested and extradeited to the US ("we thought you'd like that since he commited a crime...")
Next, anti-bullying laws. If one kid taunts another, it's jail-time. Because bullying is dead-serious.

Very true. As a CS-major, I took a Philosophy of Language course. I was very frustrated because there was never a definition of "Language". The entire course, textbook, professor, and every student except me, seemed to take it for granted that everyone knows what a natural language is.
It's, you know, like, English or French or something.
Closest definition I've ever heard was "a dialect plus an army". But then try to say what a dialect is oh recursive master.
Everybody is mad about OO because it's a fundamentally different way about thinking how to solve problems (inasmuch as such can be). It's not about the code. If you rank yourself as the best in your university because you won programming contests, then IMHO that makes you very smart, but I'd never hire you (not that I'm in any position to hire). Just from the tidbid in that message, I get a bad vibe:

Even though it seems that people in this situation have managed to license their personal product to their company, usually this really shouldn't be done... Did you sign a conflict-of-interest paper? One where it talks about not having any controlling interest in suppliers or customers?
Most Intellectual Agreements that are signed with companies specifically say that if you are working on any project which might potentially compete with the company or be sold to the company, then you must - IN ADVANCE - gain written approval from the company for developing it in your spare time.
I think it's too late now - you can't moonlight unless there is absolutely nothing in common between your work work and your personal work.
Er, that's not true. A license was granted to a BC farmer to grow marijuana legally. Thus the laws against non-medicianal use, growing, posession remain.
But unless you're really stupid and open about it, or unless you're wanted by the Americans, then it's probably not to difficult to do anyway. Most police forces, courts, and even some politicans here understand that much better then the Land of the Free (tm).
I tried getting work in UK and Switzerland after graduating. As a Canadian citizen, I assume that it would be as easy or easier then an American citizen (Commenwealth and all).
It wasn't easy. It wasn't even doable. They wanted me to pay to go there for interviews - because I was a new grad. They said that I would have to obtain my own sponsorship to work there - even though they said they were desperate for people.
Protectionism is a pain in the ass.
Most modern SW Engineering models include traceability from one step back to its predecessors. They also increasingly emphasize the requirements phase as the most imporant part.
It's all about the interface.

The world doesn't need the internet.
It just needs a better fleet of carrier-pigeons that implement the IP-over-carrier-pigeon protocol.

China was recently cited by the UN as being the single most responsible government when it came to solving world hunger. It has done more in the last 40 years to prevent famine then any other government in the world.
However, the main point is still intact, since describing China as a totalitarian regime with no feedback is more stereotypical then realistic. Certainly a democracy has much more feedback, but the government in China does occasionally listen to the people (especially when convenient).
Maybe we should start producing Tie-fighters. You know, like mass-produce cheap fighters and bombers. I mean, there's no risk to humans, so if a plane is lost, who cares?
