  8. Re:Advice on How Did You Become a UNIX Administrator? · · Score: 1

I've been a UNIX admin since 1987 working on all sorts of stuff. As a senior admin I rarely have to deal with the users. I spend most of my time on high-end project work, and helping the junior guys in my team when they get stuck.

As a junior member of the team you will *have* to deal with users. Saider, you're right on that. Your're wrong whre you say you don't tinker with the OS and hardware. You have to know how it works when people need you to fix it at 3:00 am.

    Sound's like Saider's on first-level support.

  10. yeah, but... on The (Possible) Future of Alternative Energy · · Score: 1

I can really see the oil cartels stepping aside for a clean renewable energy source ... not! They have *so* much to lose that they'll do anything to ensure that we keep using fuel for years to come.

The only way something like this will ever work is if its a) easy to do so that everyone can do it and b) in the public domain so there's no trade secrets.

There are *lots* of things other than cars that rely on petrol and associated byproducts...

There, I feel so much better

My other sig is a better one.
