The new Unity is highly usable, and I liked it so much I even moved my dock to the left. The current Unity is actually the closest on usability of a system I've found to Mac OS X, and it's actually free. I understand you're a diehard fan and that change is hard, but give it a minute or two and allow for the occasional bug (it was free after all) and you might be pleasantly surprised.

I never failed to get any of my computers to run well enough for that with any common linux distro...

I've had that problem when the browser needs to use the pagefile constantly (low RAM systems) but it happened in both Firefox and Chrome. But the latest firefox actually seems to use a lot less memory than chrome, and at the same time the animations run in separate processes, so both the supposed causes to your problem have been fixed.

    No NO NO!

Android doesn't require patents, technology around smartphone does. RIM already has licensing agreements with most of the big players and they also own a lot of patents required by anyone that wants to build a smartphone.

Legal problems would be the least of their worries.

Actually, you're mixing two things. Threads are supposed to have better performance, due to less cost when doing a context switch, but if the process crashes, everything goes. But performance and stability are two different things.

And nowadays I believe flash and things like that are run on another process, so it is less likely to crash... And having a process for each tab would require a full code rewrite, and I really don't believe it's worth it.

For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her notebook on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month. Need a reminder? Add an event to your desktop’s iCal. When your battery no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs, you may choose to replace it. If your notebook came with a built-in battery, you should have the battery replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider."
