I have never been to a sporting event that started with a prayer. Were I live there are ongoing legal challenges to the practice of government meetings beginning with a prayer.
I am totally against the practice which is in fact a violation of the establishment clause.
Religion is a disgusting practice that government needs to stop encouraging. It is perhaps the number one impediment to progress in human society today.
At the time the Constitution was adopted many states supported churches through taxation. Horribly that practice continues today through educational vouchers - which are one of the favorite mechanisms that the Tea Party wants to increase.
The Debt Ceiling is and always has been for one purpose and one purpose only:
Getting Politicians in the News.
When the Dems are in power Republicans vote against raising it. When Republicans are in power Dems vote against raising it. In fact neither party can actually avoid the firestorm that would happen if they fail to raise it so it always gets raised.
It is a complete 100% total sham. On Slashdot we talk about security theater. Well folks politicians know about theater too and have been at it for thousands of years longer.
The debt ceiling is one manifestation of Budget Theater. And it's dramatic genre is Farce. I am sure Budget Theater be a long running play.
If the Congress was serious about reducing debt would happen. And it would happen when the budget allocations were made, not on this recurring cycle of the Debt Limit raising.
I will give credit to the Tea Party for opposition to this, but not Republicans in general. They were just as much on board with this as the Democrats until the shit hit the fan. I wrote and called my local representative (Republican) on this issue multiple times and got no response until AFTER blackout day. The author of the bill in the House is a Republican.
The precedent for agreeing to treaties this way goes back to George Washington's neutrality proclamation in 1793. You would have to retroactively impeach EVERY US President first to have a case against Mr. Obama.
In actual practice due to the way the Constitution is written the only thing the Senate has is a veto power over treaties.
Given that every religion has a different, conflicting answer to the questions it tries to answer I'd say that religion fails utterly to provide answers to anything.
Yes, pretty much. I've decided that since I'm going to be ass-raped in this fashion I might as well profit by it so I'm well invested in companies that exploit customer data to the max.
"For an industry that's pursuing copyright reform, the portrayal of a copyright regime that works against young artists can't be a good thing."
They aren't pursuing copyright reform. They are pursuing aggrandizement, extension, enlargement, enforcement, enhancement, globalization, privatization, and institutionalization of copyright.
People forget that most US manufacturing job losses are due to automation, not offshoring of production. The US is still the biggest manufacturing economy in the world, it just doesn't need that many people to supply the material needs of the nation any more.
These jobs are just not going to come back, any more than farm employment is going to come back.
What is going to have to happen is a restructuring that will take into account the fact that less than 15% of the workforce is involved in making physical goods. Software is part of that, although not as big a part as one might want.
Folks in the EU need to take action to protect their own interests and stop whining and behaving like pussies any time there is the slightest political pressure from outside and blaming the US any time something they don't like comes up.
Dammit Europe is not a colony of the US, and it should stop behaving like one. And this includes paying for its own military instead of relying on the US all the time.
If you don't you are going to get tired of getting ass raped all the time.
They are just taking advantage of the system as it exists today.
The only way to stop this is to break the relationship between corporations and government. I think that will take a constitutional amendment to prohibit corporations from making political contributions and running political ads.
Otherwise it's going to up to the electorate to become more active in letting their representatives know they are paying attention.
In the case of revealing the location of the gun, the Supreme Court established a public safety exemption to the 5th amendment. The gun was hidden in a supermarket where the public including children might find it, or the suspect might find it and use it against the police.
In the case of the safe, the prosecutors could always force the safe open. The only thing giving up the combination does is prevent property damage.
Neither of these apply to keys to encrypted hard drives.

Limited immigration is crypto-racism.
It has nothing to do with the economic conservatism that you are proposing as the core Tea Party value.

It isn't already? I grew up in the '60s and remember a butt load of hate for America even back then.

NFL revenue is about 4 billion. Clearly this is not a threat to their business.
The FBI needs to have it's budget cut if this is the best thing they can do. I mean 4 million is one SUV full of cocaine.
It won't get smacked down in court because of prior precedence for these 'executive agreements'.
The only way to put an end to it is by a failed Senate ratification vote.

The President has already signed it and is claiming the Senate doesn't need to ratify it because "executive agreement" is all you need.
Handy theory because you only have to influence one person.
This is why we need this to come before the Senate so it can be voted down.
That's what I told my Congressman.
Given that every religion has a different, conflicting answer to the questions it tries to answer I'd say that religion fails utterly to provide answers to anything.
Well, that proposal sure would make things like the GPL license useless.
Lots of other things also have a much longer life cycle than 5 years.
Something like 20 years is more likely to be correct.
So you are saying that there has been no "Progress of Science and useful Arts" since 1787?

FTFY
Better go look up "executive agreement".
Yes.

Yes, but those are going to be walled gardens. If you want to get out of those you will need to pay .10 per byte roaming charges.

Some pretty big holes in your thesis there guy. For example the US is still the biggest manufacturing nation in the world.
It's also second only to China in exports, and is currently enjoying job growth despite popular misconceptions.

That is somebody who is in a priveledged class that cannot testify against you.
Sun news wants to run the CBC out of business so they'll be able to pour Murdoch style bile down the throats of Canadians without objection.
I can't believe you are buying into that so soon.
