I'm certainly not saying that Verant hasn't taken ideas from Mythic... (tho I thought alternate skills (read: AAXP) was done by Verant before Mythic) and I'm not saying that either company has made a perfect game, they both have problems, but they were both fun to play. DAoC just didn't have the content that I wanted. That's really what it boils down to, aside from the fact that my RL best friend (who I admittedly bought the game for) had no interest in moving to a 'better' game due to his investment in a 56 Monk, 58 Druid, and several post 30 alts.
In the end, it's all a matter of preference... I kinda think it's silly to even be arguing about which is better, which begs the question... why did I even post here? =P
Not to say anything about how funny it was, I had to chuckle at a few parts... but since when was the 'Holy Trinity' Warrior/Cleric/Wizard? I've always (for the past 3 years) heard Warrior/Cleric/Enchanter. That's not to mention that in most (read: non Ubermob) encounters a Shadowknight or Paladin can actually be a more effective tank due to holding aggro better. That is, unless the warrior has max haste, max dex, and some nice procs. Even with that, an SK or Pally might beat him aggro wise if they put forth a little effort. Rangers would be great for MT, but they can't take the dmg as well as the other 3, so while I love having one in a group... I'd rather one of the other three MT.

P.S. I can see how your 'Holy Trinity' might be better in some cases, but I also see that 9 times out of 10 an enchanter is going to be more helpful than a wizard except maybe against Ubermobs (if you already have max haste and mental clarity 3 with the 7th prayer shawl =p)
P.P.S. That is, assuming you have a druid to Evac, if not... then a Wizard *is* damn useful... but I wouldn't say that Evacs make them part of the 'Holy Trinity'
I've managed to hold a full time job, spend time with my friends/girlfriend, and play EQ. It's really not that difficult. I even quit EQ for a year... but you know what? It was fun, it is fun. No, my life doesn't suck... I still do things IRL. I also know many people in game who do things in real life. Many of them are college students and have friends, they party like other college students do. Isn't that social interaction?

So I'm guessing you have some argument that makes it ok for Mythic to rip off AAXP, but not the other way around? And don't even try to say that EQ took basic ideas from other games, too... because none of them would exist if not for MUDs.
It's kind of silly to accuse certain game companies of stealing ideas from other companies, IMO. I played DAoC for a while, and I liked a lot of what they had to offer... except that the terrain is boring at best, there is hardly any content, and my friends (the ones that were playing ANY MMORPG) were still playing EQ. So what did I do? I went back to EQ. Would I pay for a world with some of the systems that DAoC offered, but set in Norrath, with the friends that I enjoy playing with now? Hell yes.

I used that exact idea to explain this to my girlfriend earlier. I also used the idea of someone at a go-kart track offering the use of the (best condition) kart he rented in exchange for $X/[unit of time]. (Legally) If it doesn't belong to you, you've got no right to sell/rent it. (Ethically/Legally) If it doesn't belong to you, you've (almost always) got no right to make money off of it in any way.
Yes, in a situation where it is for work purposes this is a pretty good idea, but in my case where a cell phone or pager would be a social tool (ie for my friends to contact me more easily) and in that situation it's not a very desireable setup IMHO.
Well I called thier customer service line and found that they way it works is that when someone calls you, the system plays a recording explaining the charges, then if they continue the page, they're billed according to they type of page (the charges are billed to the phone line that is being used to make the call). The charges are as follows... $.35[numeric page], $.50[alphanumeric page], $.35+$.50/minute[hold2talk{see website for explanation}] This means that not only is it expinseve to the caller, but they can't page from payphones (although the person I talked to mentioned that they are working on that, my guess is that you'd have to use a credit card). And if they page you from a friend's house, then the friend gets billed for it... pretty crappy if you ask me, I'd rather just pay for a cell phone myself. ~Enzo_Falzon
Yeah, I loved *Ender's Game*... I loved *Ender's Shadow* as well... I'd also reccomend *Neuromancer* (William Gibson), and from what I've heard, *Snowcrash* (Don't recall the author) is good. I hope you get a chance to read many of these books listed in these comments, I'm sure they are all good.
You know what! SCREW YOU! ha! I am a programmer that does learn the features of the language and don't give a rat's rear if some dumb overachiever wants to waste his time playing with him/herself to take a test I could pass with my eyes closed. True mastery of the language comes from expirmenting. Smash your product. I don't give a crap so long as you learn something. Spending all your time studying doesn't give allow you to learn those great hacks that brightened our lives.
Attention K-mart shoppers... I saw The Matrix on opening day (uh, two days ago I think) and I just have to say that it was a lot better than I thought that it would be. When I first saw the previews for it, I thought that it was a cheap knockoff of Shadowrun or maybe Neuromancer. It also didn't help that the star of the movie was none other than Ted himself. However the movie was great, and Keaneu (probably misspelled) a good enough job that it almost made up for the whole "Bill, your mom's a babe!" That is all.
I certainly think that this whole ID thing built into the new P III's is not the greatest idea, after all, what kind of real applications will be implemented anytime really soon. However, I don't really see why people are getting so bent out of shape about it. I could really care less. The only way that anyone could really do anything with the ID is if you (the buyer) are FORCED to register it. As many of you probably know, just because they try to force you to register doesn't mean that it has to be registered legally, or sometimes at all. The other thing is, what could someone really do with this ID number? Wow, they may be able to tell when you are connected to the internet, but what real advantage would somone get from that? I don't think this is such a problem. If you don't want to have the stupid ID on your chip, then get a different chip that does not have it. Anyhow, my point is that this has gotten WAY too much attention from the nation. I am done ranting now...

Only 32 minutes here. =)
Actually, if you read the site... it says that they will just go strait up and back down... there is no orbiting involved. =)

I hope that they fixed it so that the laser no longer begins to burn your eye after 30 minutes or so...
I'd just like to say that I saw Pi about a month ago, and it was really great too...
