Jobs aren't the biggest source of inequality in America. Just look at the prison system: there are 478 prisoners per 100,000 population, but only 59 per 100,000 are female.
That's why we need a solid quota policy. We need to begin rounding up women and imprisoning them, innocent or not; otherwise we'll never achieve equality.
The principle of "no taxation without representation" was abandoned by the US government ages ago. I'm taxed, and I'm not allowed to vote. Get over it.
Get over yourself you miserable fuck. [...] [Y]ou elitist asshole. Wanking off to haughty, overblown crap doesn't make you any more intelligent - it just shows you value a different brand of crap. [...] No pacing, no coherent connection between action and effect, just "here's some shit I thought of when I was fucked up on coke... it's ART. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU DON'T APPRECIATE ART!"
No you idiot your random shit isn't art. And you're not half so smart as you think you are. So please, shut the fuck up, asshole.
What is this, "Ebert and Bill O'Reilly Go To The Movies"?
The final 20 minute ending of "Ai" is the most egregious example of a deus ex machina ending I've ever seen in a movie, so I have a hard time believing that Kubrick wouldn't have known better.
Speaking as someone who owns three Macs, the built-in Mac audio is really crap. I use an M-Audio external USB audio interface, and the difference in sound quality, even using midrange Cambridge Soundworks speakers, is insane.
Mac audio may be less crap than the audio built in to many $300 PCs, but that doesn't make it good.
In case you aren't aware, Hillary Clinton is planning a Presidential run. She has been going after various right-wing concerns in an attempt to make herself look more palatable to what the Democrats perceive as the mainstream of US politics.
She has been talking about abortion as a "sad, tragic choice" that should happen "only in very rare circumstances", supporting the war in Iraq, talking about how she's adamantly against illegal immigration, and so on. It's all rather blatant. I'll be curious to see if it works.
Thin clients have been "the next big thing" since the late 1980s, when they were called "diskless workstations".
The problem is, computer systems are fragile enough as it is without making your entire business slow down or grind to a halt, unable to even write a simple memo, whenever the network is slow or flaky. The cost savings of a thin client isn't nearly big enough to justify that kind of risk.
Thin clients were a dumb idea in the 80s, and they're still a dumb idea now. A full 20+ years of hype for them hasn't made them catch on, so give it up already.
When I interviewed at Apple in 97, the party line was that Java was going to replace Objective C as the standard language for accessing the NeXTSTEP APIs.
Yeah, well, it's worth remembering that back in 1997, Netscape's new browser was going to be written in Java, Corel were going to sell an office suite written in Java, and everyone was going to run 'thin client' systems based on Java. The great Java hype machine was just winding down.
You could however have fictional characters living in that time frame who interact with the main characters in cutscenes and then go off and do their own thing.
You mean like Monty Python's Life of Brian? Yes, nothing controversial to Christians there...
Yeah, imagine someone using 9/11 to make a political point... like, holding a political rally by the site of the World Trade Center, on the anniversary of 9/11, and explicitly referring to 9/11 in his speech... what kind of scumbag would do that?
Just because you're not under attack on home ground and don't hear people running and screaming is no reason to get so content that you call the guy who kept the attacks from happening for 4 years evil.
It has already been established that the WTO's authority overrides national laws and EU laws. That's the deal the politicians in the 90s signed. As a result, governments that have tried to disobey the WTO, including the EU, have been slapped down.
Skip RedHat. Go with MEPIS, which is compatible with Debian (to the extent of being able to use Debian repositories safely, unlike Ubuntu), but has better hardware detection.
Comes on a single KNOPPIX-like bootable CD. Try it out live, only install if it works.
And unfortunately, the GATT TRIPS agreements mean that the WTO will be forcing the individual signatory countries (such as the UK) to enact software patents.
Here's hoping Jeff's Xbox 360 projects herald the same kind of explosive growth for that platform as his Nuon and Jaguar projects did for those platforms.

Jebus, have you been in a coma for the last five years?
I hope you only use 650MB CDs, then. Because those larger CDs don't obey the CD standards, risking loss of data...
That doesn't mean they haven't tried, though. e.g. Dmitri Sklyarov, and the people who published photos of the war dead from Iraq.

I haven't seen a PSP. I don't know anyone who's got one, and none of the stores have 'em on display. They all have the DS, though.
It's not surprising Nintendo has the consumer confidence when most people will only have seen the DS as a real product.
You forgot MEPIS as well as Fedora on the desktop; they're #3 and #4 in popularity on DistroWatch.com. You also forgot SuSE on the server.
So that's 7 desktop distributions...
Yes, C isn't dead.
But if C needs 1600 pages of book to explain how to write reliable maintainable code in it, perhaps it's past time we killed it.

On behalf of the fact-based community, I refer you to http://www.xciv.org/~meta/2004/09/30#2004-09-29
The TRIPS agreements, ruled on by the WTO, regard inadequate patent protection as an unfair restraint of trade.
I'm not saying the WTO has never done anything good. I'm surprised it hasn't ruled against region coding of DVDs, in fact.
It has already been established that the WTO's authority overrides national laws and EU laws. That's the deal the politicians in the 90s signed. As a result, governments that have tried to disobey the WTO, including the EU, have been slapped down.
Yes, it actually saddens me that none of Jeff Minter's post-Atari ST stuff has been on platforms I use.
A GNOME-based distribution is bloated and buggy? How on earth did that happen?

Passport failed because it required that everyone trust Microsoft.
(Yeah, right.)
This system doesn't require a central trusted entity.
