There's no easy answer. And people hate that, they want easy answers, in the form of Ridilin (sp?) or a new government agenda. It's not an easy task to reform the basic morals of a nation. I just hope a downward spiral doesn't come of this all.

Maybe I should be clearer. I don't think that guns should just disappear, because that's just wishful thinking. However, just because they've been invented doesn't mean everyone suddenly needs one. If I recall, we've 'invented' a variety of people killers: nerve gas, nukes, sporks.. Does that mean I should have a small canister of Sarin in my closet 'just in case?'

You're right, people aren't nice. But bad people who exist in a society where guns aren't a social norm are less likely to use them. Why do you think guns are so prevalent in the states? They're in the social structure, in the Constitution, they play a role in politics through groups like the NRA. But the fact is that this isn't what SHOULD be.

Yes, if guns were outlawed, they'd still be purchased. The guns don't need to go, the people's belief that they need guns does. I agree with your last point, the mentality is wrong.

So then tell me what would have happened if these kids had been using knives? Any jackaninny with any martial arts or even fighting experience from a BAR would have taken him down.

Finally, please, tell me why we should have guns. Give me a reason that doesn't insult my intelligence. 'Self Defense' is bullshit. If noone has guns, noone needs to be defended from them. The concept that 'everyone with a gun, noone using one' is as retarted as the concept of Mutally Assured Destruction from the Cold War. But think about this: As far as things go, a webpage may as well be a single entitiy. And all the links on that page, no matter where they go, are put there to be accessed. Now, that can't mean like linking creates ownership of data, but in a lot of cases, especially with the ability to change the little bar at the bottom of the browser with JavaScript, how can you tell when you're on one server or another? The links may as well be pointing to local data, it's all the same in the end.

The question we should be asking is the extent. It's not easy to draw similar situations though. Is this like the old 'bomb data used to commit a crime' argument? I mean, the original mp3's were illegal. These links are illegal too, they also made public the availability of illegal mp3's.

So despite what anyone wants to think, in the end it IS illegal. I'm sorry to all the /.ers, but you can't post illegal mp3s and expect nothing to happen.

So what's my point? Well maybe it's time RMS took a miss. This is a little like the Chuck the Daemon argument. The people call it Linux. Boo Hoo if that name doesn't give credit to GNU. People still call the BSD daemon Chuck. What's in a name, really?

RMS seriously needs to revise his attitute a little. People might actually take kindly to calling it GNU/Linux if he wasn't yelling so damn loudly. Something he needs to learn is that people who 5 minutes ago didn't care will suddenly be against you if you come on too strong or are rude.

Ivonova is just damn hilarious because she gets the comic relief lines (Well, we're screwed - Severed Dreams) but she also has the painful chore of summing up the last 3 episodes every time there's an ongoing series of eps. Think back to The Long Night and all the episodes surrounding that war. Beginning of every episode was her job to give us a plot summary, and it's typically bordering a run-on sentence.

As for other characters, it's a lot like Star Wars for dialog. It's easy to follow, it's quite often funny. While B5 is a step up, you still have to listen to all sorts of inane babble about religions and what not (Delen's lines come to mind)

But if strong dialog made a strong series/following/movie/show/etc then shouldn't these two be a lot less popular? Ditto to Star Trek, there are SO many pure technobabble lines.

I suppose it goes to show that simplicity lies at the heart of good SciFi/Fantasy. In the end, a good vs evil story, characters to identify with, lines that are both corny and funny...

So what makes Lesbianism 'more' socially acceptable? I don't know personally. Is it because guys get off on it? But I'd hate to think that it's JUST the guys that are defining social acceptability.

Maybe it's that pop culture is 'making' it ok. I mean, once it's on Prime Time, it MUST be ok.

Or maybe it was just that Ellen was a good role model or something..? For the life of me, I can't figure it out and it bothers me that such a double standard would exist.

Although for a laugh, look to Japan, where you had gay characters in the TV shows and movies aimed at children. Sailor Moon is a wonderful example. Anyone who's seen the 'Americanized' version would remember Zoicite, the female. Sorry, in the original, she was male. And in love with that other general. Or you get into the later seasons, and bang, you have Michiru and Haruka. Pair of lesbians. Or from the 'R' movie, the antagonist, Fiore was gay.

So maybe as far as morals go, it's very subjective. And now I've gotten into two seperate topics, the double standard, and the subjective morality. Dammit.

Had you read my response carefully and even (gasp) the article itself, you would have noticed the section on how these AREN'T Apple clones. Apple machines use ROM's (or used to anyway).

Calling these machines Apple boxes just because they are PowerPC boxen is like calling every x86 a Windows box. In fact, IBM has been using these chips extensively in their own machines and Apple hasn't gone ballistic yet.

As to your conspiracy theories, Apple is going to take over the world just as quickly as AOL/Sun/Netscape. You are obviously 'blind' to the fact that all Apple is doing is trying to make a business again. I don't agree with how they're doing it, but honestly, you claiming Jobs is going to become Gates is about as founded as someone saying Linus will. And your assumption that I'm an Apple lackey is sorely misplaced. I can't stand Apple. I can't stand the way they make expensive boxen, I can't stand the way they sit on Quicktime codecs. I don't like Apple.

Like it or not, IBM made the specs available to motherboard makers. So Apple can't do SFA (sh*t f*ck all) about it. The only way Apple will crush these as competition is by making OS X either need ROM's or just not work with CHRA. Like MacOS.
