Ok, Let's say for the sake of arguement that I am Courtney Love. How do I get any money from this based on people using my work? How can they tell who out there is copying my work? This sounds like it has nothing to do with the artist and is just about lining the pockets of the content industries.
Really, now that any 12 year old with a computer can copy and distribute content all over the world, these corporations are justs trying to make money off of nothing.
They haven't a leg to stand on, and I doubt they'll even find grounds to sue.
But does it matter? the software is now not on the net because most people do not have the resources to fight large corporate entities in court.
Digital Convergence has gotten exactly what it wanted through bullying. Many fights that are important to us slahdot readers are being fought now. The scary thing is that the field for these battles is the courtroom and they are being fought by lawyers. The corporate world seems much better suited to fight these battles with thier endless amounts of cash. Not to mention that they seem to have a pretty big influence in the creation of the law itself, ie DMCA.
I think it will be quite an uphill battle to defeat them, even if they are going againsts all common sense.
The quality of Toy Story indicates it has a little bit of a way to go, but it may only take a few years.
Actually, Squaresoft, the makers of the final fantasy video games is making a theatrical film with the same title. It will be totally CGI, and they are claiming that it will be photorealistic. There is a teaser trailer at the official website
I have seen some still images and some bootleg footage of the film that was shown on japanese television. Looks very incredible. puts the cgi in Phantom Menance to shame. While I won't say that is it photorealistic.. it is 99.5% there.
