On a more serious note I hope that this stuff can live up to its promises, this could help alot of ppl. Now the appathetic US public doesn't have to get their collectively lazy ass off the couch and donate blood.

Whenever politicians attach riders to bills with a completely unrelated and detrimental content people on/. are up in arms - how is this any different?
If these groups want to challenge measures such as Carnivore, then let them to it alone, rather than hanging on the coattails of a real court action.
But why do you consider the protection of privacy to be detrimental? This is very different from the Pork Barrel that politicians attach to bills.
the Nazi swastika is the mirror image of the traditional one, the arms are pointed in the wrong direction. so be proud of the true swastika and shun the nazi corrupted backwards one. Start up a website devoted to educating ppl on it, let the truth be known,
Why stick with Intel? You can get a GHz T-Bird for ~$660. Then you could get some extra memory for that bad boy too. after you overclock it to 1.1Ghz of course.:)
I love vegetarians - some of my favorite foods are vegetarians.
Don't you consider MMX, SSE,and SSE2 to be gimicks for marketing than actually useful? I'm sure some programs can take advantage of these things, but do we really need them? Why don't the chip designers put some effort into actually improving the chip rather than attaching shiny things to it?
The article states that this is a tweaked PIII core with more L2 Cache, its.13 micron so that they can run an outdated core faster, good idea but does that really require a new number? why can't it be called PIII Pro or something else equally as dumb. Why does moving to.13 micron warrent a new number? why not just do what they did before? and some letters to the end of it, like PIII 600EB, we could have PIII 1400X.

.Net is vapor, C# might as well be with all this talk about it being specialized for the.NET platform. It's nice that MS want to keep its monopoly going, but does anybody really need this? Who programs in C++ because you write code quickly? Who benifits the most from this new MS controlled language? Since it draws on the.NET platform so much portability is lost, or might as well be. what self respecting Linux fiend touches MS product with a ten foot pole?
For my birthday I got a humidifier and a de-humidifier... I put them in the same room and let them fight it out. -- Steven Wright
This wasn't really offtopic was it? I mean, since they're so small you might be able to get a better MFlops/Cubic Feet ratio than with standard desktops.

The gas in the current crop of fl lights is excited so as to release UV, then the UV hits a phosphorous coating on the inside of the tube. (That's why they're white) Just substitute that gas for this cold plasma, since both produce UV, and you're done. A new kind of fl light.

Personally I don't see linux as a "a panacea for all computing needs" but as a tool for the home programmer. Something to have fun with, take apart and learn something from. That is something that you cannot do on a closed software model.
Why does every closed minded person seem to think that because it is for the opn source group that it must be for everybody.
The average consumer(I'm over generalizing) doesn't want to know how to do things, they want to plug it in and have it work. Fine, nobody is forcing you to buy a linux distro or DL one. use whatever you want. But if you want to learn somethng and maybe contribute as well, then pick up a copy of linux for yourself.
The general public will always want the consistant UI and UserFriendly stuff, but I have never found anything more satifying then learning how to actually use something, not use the UI that assumes I can't think for myself.
P.S. I love the shell, command lines are my friends.
Of course its hard to believe, until you read the server setups at the bottom of the page.
"Every company except Microsoft used two Sun Ultra 2 servers (with two CPUs each) and one Sun Ultra Enterprise 450 (with four CPUs each) as application servers, four Sun Ultra 1 servers (with one CPU each) and two Compaq ProLiant servers (a 6000 and a 7000, each with four CPUs) as Web servers, and a Sun Ultra Enterprise 3000 (with four CPUs) as a database server.
Microsoft used four Compaq ProLiant 6400R servers (with four CPUs each) as combined Web and application servers and a Compaq ProLiant 6500 (with four CPUs) as a database server. Microsoft also used different Web server and database server software than other vendors, so results for Microsoft are not comparable to the other results."
If this isn't FUD I don't know what is. They clearly state that you can get anything useful out of their test, but they do it where most people won't read it.
I don't see what the big deal is, Intel released a new chip.::sarcasm mode:: Whoopi!::sarcasm mode:: Tell me where to get cold hard specs, and not off of the intel site. Lets find them from someone like Tom. Then, if it pans out, we can wet our pants because of this thing.
My Email in posted story is wrong, sorry to who ever is getting the mail that was generated by this. Send anything you want to to j_powell69@hotmail.com. I Was using it before M$ took it over, now it sucks but at least its constant, more than i can say for my other emails, can't keep any of them for my than 6 months, but hey maybe microsoft's.NET will fix that for me!::sarcasm mode::
We're not silly, we just don't trust Micros~1. I personally would rather use the power in my computer to do something really usefull reather then let it eat all my CPU time trying to figure out what I want it to do. learning how to use a system is a much better solution than making a system smart enough to figure what you want it to do, typos could cuase much more damage in an "intelligent" system like this. Say you're looking at stock quotes and you tell the computer that you're interested in buying some. the computer might interperate this as a command and buy some on your behalf. instead of gathering information like you wanted it to. I feel that "smart" computers with natural language querys are a bad idea, have to think about what you want, instead of just typing without thinking, will give you better results. Remember that Demos are always better than the actual software. Never believe demos. They are just shiny PR pieces. Maybe when M$ stop taking credit for doing things that other ppl have already done and claiming that its revolutionary then maybe the silly ppl here will have a little more respect and trust for MircoShaft. As for me its going to take Billy Boy something a whole lot more impressive than this to get me to buy it. "The more the computer does for me the better. I don't need to reafirm that I know how todo repetitive tasks day in and day out just to feel cool and elite." Thats not why I feel elite, I feel elite because i use more of my CPU cycles for doing things rather than keeping my OS up and running. In a world without walls, who needs windows and gates?
Remember your university account is on a UNIX machine not microshaft. UNIX has far better security and tools for doing something like this. Anytime software has to be dumbed down for the general public its going to cause problems, that is why this is a bad idea, more user friendly == easier cracking (generally).
