Catwoman definitely got a lot of popularity from Pfeiffer's performance & the cartoon. The X-Men movies I would say, based on the circles I run in, hurt the popularity of Jean & Rogue. Rogue in particular being played all sullen and flat did not do the fiery red head's character justice. Jean really became popular around the time of the Phoenix storyline but you're right, she's not very recognizable. Rogue is with her red hair, white strip, and green/yellow outfit. I have no idea how they thought this: http://www.littlestuffedbull.com/images/comics/fnf/rogue/rogue-anna.jpg was in any way a reflection of this: http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/4/48294/892753-rogue_super.jpg

You're right that Wonder Woman is instantly recognizable... personally every time I see her I have to hold back a giggle.

I'm pretty sure it was the reverse, neither Kirsten Dunst, nor Toby Maguire at 34 years old, wanted to go back to High School and pretend to be a 17-18yo.

From that article, the director and two lead actors "decided" to quit all at the same time. I highly doubt Maguire would walk away from a $50 million dollar contract because he didn't want to pretend to be a high school student. It sounds a lot more like the studio scrapped the project and encouraged them to "decide to quit" to save face.

DC characters also suffer from *boy *man *girl *woman syndrome, which imo has fallen out of favour for the most part (other than the major ones like Super/Spider/Iron/etc). They seem to have missed the 70s-90s and gotten stuck in the 50s-60s

Wonder Woman? Probably the most popular female in all comics...

I think this is a bit of a US centric view. Where I am, while people know Wonder Woman, not many actually like her. Jean Grey, Rogue, and Catwoman are far more popular. That said, you are right that they ought to update the character for a movie... after the flop that was the failed Wonder Woman TV series it probably won't be happening any time soon.

It's more than likely they reboot for contract issues. "Amazing Spiderman" is not "Spider-man" so they don't have to honour contracts/buy out individuals who have a stake in the series. Given that specific example, Tobey Maguire had signed a deal for Spider-man 4 & 5 but the director didn't like the direction it was taking or the actor so they scrapped Spider-man 4 & 5 and rebooted under the new title.

[facepalm] - I think you need to get a clue. There's a bug with Windows 7 where it "forgets" your network even though it's already setup. It manifests in two ways:

    1) The SSID doesn't show up on the list of networks to connect to.
    2) It shows it on the connect list but refuses to connect.

Windows XP had this as well, in XP all you did to fix it was repair the connection. Now you must do: Open Network and Sharing Centre->Manage Wireless Networks->Remove the "forgotten" SSID from your network list->Close->Refresh the network list->reconnect to the same wireless network you just deleted from your list. In addition to all that mess, the troubleshooter takes 10x longer than repairing in XP.

Yes, and if you're not connected to a network the troubleshooting results are "You need to connect to a network" but if the problem is that you can't find your network listed (requiring manual removal from your network list to re-find it) or that it won't connect.... it's a logical loop. "I need to repair my connection to be able to connect, but I can't repair until I connect"

Windows 7 is decent, though I much prefer the control panel of XP - too many things you can't do in Win7 or have been buried (like repairing the connection when you're not connected... freaking genius troubleshooting that you need to connect to a network). Still running FF3.6 since the UI in the rest of the browsers out there drive me up the wall. Still running Office 2003 due to stupid freaking ribbons.

I did read TFA, the reason I don't think that will take off is because that style of computing doesn't make sense. You've got a device, easily stolen/lost/etc which contains all your data and you hook it up to peripherals? What about power? It doesn't make sense, even wirelessly. It's too insecure both physically and due to potential attacks from random stuff you're connecting to, too much hassle to connect/disconnect, and there will always be compatibility issues (especially globally).

A home or "cloud" PC that you can login to from any dumb terminal makes much more sense. My aunt's law office is already doing this, as another poster mentioned, thin clients. The reason I think home systems will become this is because more and more you'll see them integrated into the home's environmental systems, lighting, etc. now with things like Windows 8, Apple/Google/X TV and the like you've got one unit that hooks into all your apps and if you've got a static IP you can hook into remotely.

Laptops are great, phones & pdas are great in a pinch but nothing compares to a triple monitor beast to mess around with. If anything I see PCs becoming more relevant with wireless display tech. 1 computer, multiple users, multiple displays. No need to sync because it's all on one system. The cloud will be based out of the home and you access it from anywhere.

    My suggestions:

    - Hobbit/LOTR
    - Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy of five
    - Star Wars junk novels... they're no masterworks but entertaining for kids (though pre-read them as 1 in ~5 have sections that may not be entirely suitable depending on the age)
    - Terry Pratchett's books... I haven't read these but my sister really loved them... there's a couple of books for kids and the Discworld series

I'd say start with the 66 series as well, but for some that can be too big of a leap. With TNG there are recognizable actors, special effects by the end of the series are relatively good even by today's standards.

If they enjoy it, go back and watch the 66 series and continue with DSN/Voyager/Enterprise
