This just seems to be a marketing scheme to pimp their new 3d-engine... I don't see how it is of much intrest to anybody here... there is not even a linux port.. or even a mention of one on there website. We could probably wine the older version and be better off. oh well...
legOS is an open-source embedded operating system for the LEGO Mindstorms, a LEGO brick with a brain. Compared to the standard software, it offers vastly superior performance and flexibility.
As of version 0.2.0, legOS features include:
* Dynamic loading of programs and modules
* Full IR packet networking
* Preemprive multitasking
* Dynamic memory management
* Drivers for all RCX subsystems
* 16 MHz native mode speed
* Access to 32k RAM
Not sure about you, but the crappy IDE click and drag blocks all over the place doesnt quite the cake for building a robot. I wish i had a block to try this OS out. Legos ruuulllll333!!
I think 1 major step would be teaching AI somthing constant... i.e. Math... lets teach a computer howto add and subtract, and see if it comes up with higher level stuff like multiplication and division, or even better yet see if it 'discovers' calculus, or makes note of the value of PI.. This crap of filling a dictionary file and having it search through it is only a parlor trick. AI is more of a feat of teaching something howto learn than it is in teaching something howto be like somthing else. Calling it Artificial is probably our biggest thing to over come... we dont need artificial intelligence we need Real Intelligence.. whether it comes from a CPU or a human brain makes no difference
The only people that should be afraid.. and your not a criminal are you;). I mean if your using cash then you surely MUST be smugglin somthing around the country.. is there something wrong with MY logic?
I have competed in FIRST for 3 years, and if i learned anything in high school i would have to say it came from those years of competition. I would just like to note that FIRST isnt jsut about robots. The competition spans all areas of interest including logistics business and public relations... But its the time spent in the 'pit' that makes all the difference. Unfortunatly there are alot of corrupt teams and sponsors, e.g. teams that have full time engineers working on there robots, instead of students. That was one of the major things that pissed me off, to see other students out having fun running around like children while there sponsors and mentors are back in the pit with there heads into the robots. Let me tell you, there is nothing like the rush you get when your still bolting your robot together while your riding the cart to the playing field, 30 seconds befor the match begins. man it kicked ass
Normaly I dont respond to AC's but you have insulted my coding abilities... If you took the time to think.. you would have come to a conclusion that sig.mine.nu is my development server for my production site http://www.gamesig.com but you didnt think about that did you.... Also if you want to see some of my code browse on over to http://dev.sig.mine.nu/ and hit up the sourceforge account and download my tar ball and look at it.. Until then don't insult my School or my coding abilities... all i am trying to do here is test my boxen.. and provide everyone a favor hot damn...
My friend, fatter than your wildest dreams... I am very much NOT looking forward to living off campus next year.. but at least I will have my own room and shower.. but sometimes I think twice about moving...
Hey man, I am just trying to share the wealth... My pipe here at school is soo fucking huge its insane.. I have downloaded at a sustained rate of 5megabytes per/second;) and now you know the reason for my insomnia hehe
Actualy FIRST is an enganging competition for all types of geeks. There are so many sub prizes and sub competitions it is crazy. Not only are students used to handle most of the logistics of transporting some 30 kids and sponsors to and from mulitple out of state regionals, there are 3d rendering contests, web design contests the robot needs programming and needs to be wired. Also there are contests for team spirit so even the nerdiest of the cheerleaders have been known to show up. The three years that i have participated in this contest have been great and i have learn so much about everything. it can almsot be compared to each team being its own comapny that has a product that they have to "sell" better than all the others. FIRST has become and awesome competition and i encorourage ANYone who has the desire to be part of this for ANY role that is required to please give this a try. ALSO and big part of it is coporate sponsorship so if you or someone you know is in charge of your companies taxes or funds please sponsor a nerd and give money to your local FIRST team, i am sure they need it. (and its a tax cut too... w00t)
