  3. Re:We should provide the censoware on Censorware to be Mandatory in Schools, Libraries · · Score: 1

These laws only apply to libraries & schools that have to use federal funds to get on the internet. My solution: give the school or library of you choice an older cheap 586 or so with Juno or whatever free access you can find. Viola! Instant non-federally funded internet access. They can't put there mits on it.

  4. I'm probably mistaken but..... on Censorware to be Mandatory in Schools, Libraries · · Score: 1

....if you are allowed to control content viewed, then doesn't that make you responsable for the content viewed? In that case if I saw something that was supposed to be filtered out and wasn't, and I was offended, then I could hold the school / library responsable for content that was supposed to be blocked. If this is the case I see a lot of lawsuits in the future. Any /. lawyers with input towards this?

  8. Filtering Software on At the Library: a Briefly Vocal Minority · · Score: 1

One more bad thing about filtering software is that the people who are creating this software are using it to promote thier own moral and political beliefs to the people that are using it. For example the "Christian Right" spends some money to develop a filtering program, well along with the porn sites that they are supposed to block out, they are also blocking out sites like the ACLU, the Blue Ribbon Foundation, Different Democratic Party sites, any site that has to do with reproduction, F**kmicrosoft.net also comes to mind, as does anything else that fits their definition of subversive. If you would like more information on this go to http://www.aclu.org they have links to lists of sites that different "babysitting" software programs are blocking.
