    The first FPS is Wolfenstein, around 1981 on the Apple II.
    It was very good at that time.

    I work with some high end graphics software
    The Mesa drivers don't work.
    A prolonged and nasty install of the Nvidia drivers is req. for the software to work.
    Not a good user experience on Linux

    You don't quite understand the problem.
    ESPN and CNN are forcing cable to bundle, not the other way around.
    Did you know ESPN is owned by Disney? They force sports fans to get Disney kids ....
    Works both ways.
    Putting pressure on the cable companies does nothing. Write congress, not much likely to happen there.
    Drop to basic service if you don't want bundles.

    several of my apps respond to voice. Admittedly still trying to get that right since they respond to what's playing the radio.

    My new phone is better.
    Its a brave new world

    I'm not sure how much my phone, and those connected to it, I'd like to know.

    I don't have one, but I agree with you. Google TV was a great piece of technology.
    It failed as commercial product.

    The world is littered with great products that didn't sell well.

    This is a space littered with failures.
    Including Google TV.
    They seem to have Netflix on-board, a start.
    But they also seem to be missing HBO, and the other movie channels. Not a deal breaker for some, but it is for me.

    If you can actually two screen with an android phone as the control and second screen that's interesting.

    good point, but!
    apps are platform specific, books aren't
    when you buy an iphone you buy into the platform. why I won't buy an iphone.

    It costs more up front, I've only bought unlocked phones.
    actually cheaper in the long run.

    Sadly you are misinformed or poorly educated.
    The companies you mention make nothing off this software.

    The companies that do make money from this software prefer not to be in he public eye. It's more profitable.
    Qualcom for instance. There are others, but I don't feel like digging their names up.

    They hold the high ground, because Apple, Android, almost irrelevant Ubuntu and MS all need their chips and software for their chips.
    If one company controlled the smartphone market they could force something, as long as there is more than one it isn't going to happen. i.e. never

    The same thing was said about myspace. whatever happened to them. the good news for facebook is they're almost too big fail. Too many people use them, though they could.
    Google, Apple, even Microsoft, too big to fail. The downside is difficult. Facebook wants to get there.
