    H.265 will have a royalty free decoder. It may have one, but I haven't noticed the spec finalized.
    Professional video will be done in H.265.

    OK, it's nice to have a royalty free encoder. BUT, where's the content.
    This is great for the amateur video crowd.

    A simple copyright stamp would solve the problem.
    The pictures are still public and any one can see them.
    However permission would be required for use. Use could be stipulated as part of that.
    Requires some administration, but the other solutions do as well.

    Good point. But everyone, and everyday is different. I've had inspired days when I worked 12 hours. My blood was up and concentration was good. I've had bad days when I caught up on email, admin, documenting, etc. no point in trying to code, nothing productive would result.

    You know not of which you speak.
    Netflix has been paying for content delivery, directly or indirectly for years.

    I agree the ploy is stupid. Another small bomb in a much larger battle.

    Comments have mentioned ala carte. Ever wonder why that died an ignominious death?

    As for the author of the title of this bit, of course he hates the rules. but that's not what the title article is about.

    A corporation's board of directors are legally responsible for the company's actions.
    Failure to appear when subpoenas are issued will have serious consequences for the billionaires.
    You can't just send a lawyer to represent you in a criminal court.
    Forcing the people that run the company to show up in court will send a message.

    You might be surprised at how many cell sites in North America rely on someone filling the tank periodically.
    On the other hand.
    The truly off the grid sites in the tropics are regularly powered by solar. Though there's likely an emergency diesel hiding somewhere. Just in case.
    There are a lot of places where solar is the most economical solution.

    This article is 15 years out of date.

    One of my company's clients at the time was the Republic of the Congo.
    Nothing like first hand knowledge.

    he lost interest in his writing, and more in staying alive.
    I met him in late '79.

    Leave it to an African company to understand, and try to get it as right as they can.
    Living off the grid is not easy.
    In the tropics the sun shines hard. Solar charging is a no brainer.

    Fortunately I only live off the grid for a week or 3 when I'm doing interesting travel.

    All true.
    But there are add ons that perform those functions. Too few "average" users understand the consequences of their choices. This lead to problems.
    If you know what you are doing, you can still disable those functions.
    Too many people were reporting Firefox as broken, because they had those features on.
    Blame the ignorant masses.
    Are you talented enough to have those features?

    XP systems are older systems. You haven't been able to buy XP for years.
    How many people have XP systems and are buying new graphics cards?
    If it still works, who cares.

    If you've hit something where the graphics drivers are obsolete, there's probably a lot more wrong.

    keeping up with advances and supporting older systems is EXPENSIVE. AMD made a cost decision, it's not worth it.

    There's a more complete explanation in the article.
    At this point in the RC cycle, the expectation is that only bug fixes will be introduced. The latest merge include changes that had nothing to do with listed issues.
    New features belong in the 3.11 branch.

    copyright law applies to the creator.
    nominally that means the owner of the device. software bullshit aside, the person taking the pictures is the owner.
    now that gets us into another interesting legal mess.
