I know this is unrealistic, but if you'd read the article you would have found out that this is an extension of PCI Express and PC manufacturers would like to extend this to Desktop PC's.
What you're missing is that the poster doesn't want to run a bakery...they want to sell homemade bicycles out of their home. It's *not* a competing enterprise. It's *not* using secret recipes. No self-respecting employer should have a problem with that, unless the employee gets their priorities out of order.
>Why in gods name do I need to specify my monitor's vertical and horizontal sync rates? Monitors have been plug n play for years now, why does X not use this info?
It does...have you ever tried leaving them out?
>Why, to change the refresh rate, do I have to run xconfig instead of just being able to change it through X like windows? If you think this isn't a problem try using X when you have a fixed-freq monitor
You can...recent versions of Gnome even give you a control panel to change it.
Check the manpage for softwareupdate.
I just used it to block those AirPort updates for the card I don't have (softwareupdate --ignore AirPort)

You oughta check out DigitalKnowHow.com.
Those guys regularly find very nice deals, and they hate rebates too...
BTW: They're not connected with those spamming criminals at digitalknowhow.net
In HP, images in books and newspapers move. How many books do you own where the pictures move?
I'd say this is a pretty good way to describe this for many people.

Nickel Metal Hydride = NiMH
No kidding....that's one of the few SciFi scenes that sends chills down my spine everytime I see it.
Oh...for that you go to the "File Management" preferences and set "Text Beside Icons".
You could also turn on "Compact Layout", but that's pretty ugly.

Yes...I can tell.

Who needs an iPod? I play Vorbis & FLAC files all the time on my Rio Karma.

I haven't used it in a while, but it should allow what you're looking for.

I bought the Sony VL900 a year or two ago and I've been really happy with it. http://www.remotecentral.com/vl700/index.html

Let Apple be responsible for the problem and have them ship it you when you get there.
I strongly recommend Dreamhost.com.
They have all that you've specified and it's under $20 a month to boot.
I've been with them for the past year, and I've been very impressed.
They must have fixed it. I use Konq, Galeon, Mozilla, & IE on various machines.
The Bank One website works on them all with no problems.
I don't know what criteria you're looking for, but Dreamhost.com has been great for me.
They're running Debian on all of their servers and their web administration panel is quite powerful.
They've had a few problems lately, but I believe they're mostly growing pains and they've handled them *very* well.
Insightful??
I hope this was a joke. How the heck are you supposed to *build* a new kernel without gcc?!?!
Yup...standard tactic.
Microsoft is always nicer than the established standard. That's how they kill them.
see 'Netscape' for further reference.

I kind of hate to send you somewhere else, but check out the ArsTechnica forums (arstechnica.infopop.net) and go to the Case & Cooling forum.
There's tons of extremely knowledgable folks there who'd *LOVE* to help you out.
Dells are black & grey. It's a Compaq conspiracy
It's a little more like "Satanic Verses".
