The ACLU is a total joke now. They have become a bunch of hyperactive politically correct berserkers. Look at their recent record for who's cases they took up. They have an agenda to fulfill, and protecting citizens from money hungry corperations and their lawyers is not part of that agenda
Not always so. If both the original coder, and the new coder know what they are doing. I've left code behind with a proper structure and explanations and poepel had no trouble with it.
The problem is that mediocre code tends to be just barely maintanable for the person who wrote it, and VERY hard for a new person.
I have experianced it both ways, and there is a noticable diffrence. I also happened to have talked to the original codders in both cases... one was well trained and well read... the other had a little training and did NOT read anything on the subject of coding. He had pleanty of years to code, but never had planning or orginization in it. It was impossible to deal with his code. It was full of bugs even when no one else was touching it. It had no interface funcitons it was just random collections of 500 line functions filled with special case exceptions. I suppose it provides job security, because no one but the original author can touch it, so thats why this type of coding practice survives... it pulls a company down into the gutter though.
Learn to write code and manage bugs well, and this stuff doesn't happen. Read Code Complete by Steve MacConnel (Is that spelled right?) It will change your life for the better. Keep a copy by your nightstand. Read it frequently. If you are a programmer, it should be your bible. As Moses was to the children of Israel, so is Steve MacConnel to us. He speaks the one inalterable truth... well you get the idea.
I'm not exactly a Microsoft basher either (at least not a big one), but it does make me a little nervous. I don't trust Microsoft. I don't think they are the root of all evil or anything, but Gates is very ambitious and has the habit of making descisions which are very good at helping him keep the microsoft monopoly strong.
Now I do think the most likely explanation is that Microsoft has resigned itself to a split and wants to keep it's position as The business app publisher. But upon thinking about it a bit I think there could be some sort of ploy here to.
Anyone remember the J++ where Microsoft seemed to embrace Java? The things was it wasn't actually Java, and it tended to hinder Java's acceptance as a usable language more than it helped. Quite a few people gave up on Java after being frustrated by J++. Maybe Microsoft will be creating a Linux version of Word that doesn't quite work 100 percent, thus "proving" to the world that Linux is an inferior operating system.

*LOL* How true. Of those people who search for porn on the net, I doubt too many are stupid enough to pay for it. (and by 'people' I am not including protazoa who can't find the 'any' key) If you have enough brains and patience to actually find these warez sites, you are probably smart enough to realize that these pay-for-porn sites are just silly.
I completely agree with this. It pisses me off to no end that you can no longer get a decent search done without getting a few dozen pieces of trash mixed in with what is already a sparse selection of dead links passin references. I think search engines should simply delete all refrences to a site from their databanks if that site is found to have blatently committed "false advertising" of itself.
