You're so right. Since Verizon and Cablevision haven't got their act together to provide DSL or cable modem access to Old Bridge, NJ, I have decided to go for the competition. If they don't want my money then somebody else will. All fine and dandy, BUT... guess what, there is no competition. There is no other cable or local telco in my area. I'm trying to vote with my money but I DON'T HAVE A CHOICE.
Now a good business sense will tell you that this is a good opportunity. But tell me, will you try to start a business to compete with these two? Guess not... and if the municipality somehow decide they want to supply this service to Old Bridge residents I bet they'll get sued on unfair competition by the same two companies.
Ain't that great? The problem with what you're saying is it applies only in an IDEAL economy. Wake up, this is real life...
Yep, my story exactly. I read this contract after signing an acceptance form with my agency. Good lesson to learn, next time I'll know how to negotiate. The n-c agreement is for one year and fortunately covers only a limited field (voip).
On the side, it's worth noting that my company (Net2Phone) was involved in a n-c lawsuit when a couple of our execs left for our main competitor (Dialpad). I'm very curious to see what comes out of this.
BTW, don't think I'm disclosing anything secret here, this was in the news several months ago.

Well, the pressure might be more than enough....
I remember a physics experiment from my high school days, when the light from a slide projector was used to rotate a small aluminum propeller. and here we're talking megawatts...
Not exactly. At the same clock speed, running 286 code, it was about the same (even a bit slower).
It was the 32 bit instructions that made it roar.
And of course, the fact that it ran at much higher clock speeds.
I this for a fact, I used to tweak 3D rendering code in assembler at that time and every clock tick counted... good old times:-)
Although you do have some points here, I have to correct you on some issues. First of all, the latest distributions of linux are _very_ easy to install. In my case, Mandrake 7.2 flied through instalation process. And unlike Windows 98 it recognized automatically ALL the hardware in my computer (printer, soundcard, CD burner, etc). This is a big step in the right direction, it was the first time I didn't have to fiddle with config files... in 5 years of Linux usage.
Then, the new KDE 2 is sweet. Gnome looks also great, but I'm more of a KDE fan myself (please don't flame me on this, is a matter of personal preference). Maybe they don't have the ease of use of Macs yet, but they're close.
So I bet it'll happen soon... the only thing that's holding it back is the lack of powerfull, easy to use applications.
If you're referring to the baby Leto, then I'm sorry to dissapoint you, but he was killed in the book as well. His brother, Leto II, will become the God Emperor, in the third novel. He and his twin sister Ghanima are born at the end of the second novel..
One word: Tivo...
Then it was that company in UK that produced a
mp3 player for cars...
Then you have a bunch of VoIP devices...
I'm telling you man, linux will do great on the
embedded devices and a good reason is that you
have the sources and you can adapt it for whatever
platform you want...
I'm telling you this from my own experience... that's what I do for a living:))
Man I wish I could mod you up....
