GUIDs -- let's just bite the bullet and never run out of IDs again.
Sure you use more space in the DB but the cost of that compared to haveing to rearchitect and update all of the hardware and scanners and such is negligible.
there is no way that the millions of people out there are going to be able to DL and get the various queue programs working correctly.
we all need to think about these things AHEAD of time and design our distributed applications to either be auto updated (where we can set a new default number of units of work).
why do I want to hang around non geeks? People that go to work 9 to 5 and leave ASAP. People that don't have a passion for what they do. And above all people who are stupid.
I much would rather hang out on irc or on a mud or EverQuest or code and chat on ICQ than be with people that don't have a passion.
great so all of the people that are going to be interested in hearing the press conference SHOULD have an internet connection and could have easily DLed an mp3 of the conference.
Go Go gadget sensationalism!
this is why I really hate the media. Everything is blown out of proportion. So what! An actor left before they even started filming. Keanu busted his ankle. Shoot the scenes that Keanu is not in.
And if worse comes to worse we just have to wait a bit longer for them to come out.
The title should be: Sequels Might be delayed a bit. Not this sensationalism crap that we have to put up with day in and day out.

Sadly CAPITALIZED are not allowed and only lowercase tags are proper for the spec:(
CRY
lowercase tags are a lot harder to read and parse when you are looking at raw html.
and it is easy to add capital tags to the dtd they are just lazy.:(

so we all have read about the space fungis that is munch munching away on the mir. As some of this lucious fungi is inside the mir (ie cosomonauts said they don't want reach into certain places) it seems that some will survive the re-rntry process.
Is anyone else the least bit concerned that we are bring back some uber fungis to earth.
I can see in a few decades the earth slowly being munched up.
I saw the.5 million and freaked out and I am not getting quite the same number as you. Wondering what you are using and if you have like 2 kernels worth of files or something.
this is AWESOME and here is why

Right now you see ads that are for the general demographic that is watching the show. Be they ads within the show itself OR in the commercials.
How many times have you been watching some sci-fi show and have a douche commercial come up. Granted there are no doubt some females watching the show and that commercial is targeted to them. But for the male geek that ad space/time is wasted on them. The same thing goes with the ads on the sides of the basketball courts. Many people could care less that Nike is splattered all over there. Nike is wasting money on me.
Now enter this luscious technology. Imagine the ability to have your profile on your set top box and as the signal comes in the set top sees that there is a space for an ad. Boom it looks up and sees that you just bought some kick ass new computer and slaps up "128 DIMMS for 89.99" right across that courtside ad space.
And this can apply to commercials also. Right now mega corporations are stuck buying ads that hit a demographic (hopefully). But by being able dynamically insert ads, we the consumer are going to benefit. I will get to see ads about things *I* am interested in and not what the some huge demographic rating says.
Some are going to cry out about privacy issues and what not. I think once I start getting ads for things I am interested in I will have a happier life. If I am not in the market for a new car I don't want to be pestered by stupid local "come on down to bob's ford!", show me things that I want to buy or do. Have a little button on my set top box that I can click to have more information sent to me. Send me FREE Stuff that I am interested in.
The one thing I see that could be sketchy about this is from Diamond Age, where people have had their vision hacked and all they see are are ads, ads, ads, ads. imagine that on your TV. Which ever channel you turn to are FULL screen ads. Your calls to your service provider are met with deaf ears. Ohhh the humanity.
After re-reading your post/question I still am confused on what you are actually doing.
are you creating a framework to allow other people to write programs to run on this distributed system?
Are you going to be doing computation and need a way to communicate amongst all of the programs?
other?
In general you have two options for doing distributed stuff semi easily:
0) define a CORBA "system" where each application talks via an ORB (ie most languages have CORBA hooks and this allows people to write in their own "language of choice") So I will grab your corba stubs write my functions to interface properly and then I should be able to talk to the other nodes
1) use java:-) The java method does not have "as nice" of incorporating lots and lots of different languages into the mix. (ie it is easier to use CORBA if you are going to have all kinds of crazy things participating in your system) If you are going to be writing most of whatever you are actually doing from scratch then java might be really nice for you.
would be really curious to understand a bit better what you are actually doing. (ie detals:-) )
Looks like they are flushing out folks who forward internal emails. Send to a few people and see if the fake news gets out. Binary search in action!

SDI and MDI are not mutually exclusive. Look at excel 2000 or whatever the stupid date naming convention is now.
Having a preference that allows the USER to choose MDI or SDI is the correct choice.
