I fell in love with programming watching a math teacher work with his trusty Apple II E running BASIC. What fascinated me was how he could get this machine to do anything. The biggest thing is to show how you can combine ideas to make new ideas. Something like LOGO hooked up to a robot would fascinate kids.
An aside: When did people in the field get so cynical. The field has changed don't be soo gloom and doom.
As with all losses of freedom there are always people fine with it because it does not affect them. However, as Martin Luther King so eloquently expressed, if all of us are not free then none of us are free. Eventually these measures will be applied to regular US citizens. This system is being perfected at the cost of the freedom of foreigners (myself included). Have no fear, ur next. btw...all those going ons in Guantanamo...don't worry ur next for that too (Padilla was just the first).
Lets be perfectly honest. With all news, if a story becomes repetitive it is no longer news. I think the "Windows Bug" thing has slipped into this chasm. Its no longer "new" and no longer interesting. Use windows at your own risk.
Dude, please stop hosting on a site that deluges you with this many popups and that goddamn Gator installer. I swear IF that thing gets rammed down my throat again. I can't believe I used to be working on a competing product for that piece of crap.
Thats right, go to your local walmart and buy all the clothes, shoes, hygene products, etc, that you will use for the rest of your life. Then spend the rest of your life laughing at how the rights of others are abused. Hey Tom Ridge is trustworthy right?
Honestly I've been looking for a good reason to quit my Comcast service. However, the speed is reasonably fast. They have looked the other way when I run servers on my machine and really the only problem I have is that I want to use a registered domain. I'm still trying to trace down the so called "@Work" service that used to exist (I think) so I can get a static ip. However, this story sounds like FUD. In fact the Code Red attack I got from inside the @HOME network justifies my firewall (I got hit with around 60 different machines from inside the @home network).
When I first started cs (94) my professor looked straight in my face and told me that I would not find a job and if I did it would be low paying ($35,000 a year was the figure he quoted). However, I did it anyway. Reality is that I couldn't see myself doing anything else. I like telling machines what to do. I like making these things easier to use for the less initiated. I like looking at problems from such insane perspectives. I like that. If you don't GET OUT NOW!!! If you are not interested from the get go you will not find a project to make it more interesting.
