I remember reading about the original bill here on slashdot, but it showed up on foxnews.com also. How do we get John Q public to take some notice? Do I think we can get the mini van driving soccer moms out there to care, probably not. But if we could get some, just some, of the average citizens to care about this, it could make a difference. Start by calling into talk radio shows. Something like 1% of the listeners on these shows hear a topic and take some form of action on it. Here is an example; Think of what those numbers might be if someone got on Rush Limbaugh and made a clear point by point case on how this is bad for the economy, and limits personal freedom. I don't think it would hurt to say that it is being introduced by a democrat.(Just a joke) These are just ideas. Try and get the nongeeks out there to care. We have got to educate people. If we don't then who will.
Mandrake is a great product. It is easy to use and has been free so far. This time I will help out. I am still fairly new to Linux but love what I see so far. Mandrake is by far the easiest to use and it would be a real losse to the Linux world if Mandrake went away.
According to the story that was on Slashdot on Monday, Comacast is intercepting packets and reselling it to marketers. "This allows them to not only log all http requests, but to also log the response." Lets see if they are logging the requests and the response, maybe somebody other then marketers might want that info.
Here is the story.

I did think about him (I believe his name is Dmitry Sklyarov), but wrote that code, I am wondering if just putting it on a website overseas is illegal? Is this similar at all to the DeCSS situation?
I understand that posting the ROM image is illegal in the states, but does that apply to Europe or Russia or even China? I know that the Xbox is not in release in those places yet but should not stop a small email attachment of the image making it's way overseas and winding up on a web site. Just wondering. Thanks.
You are 100% correct. We do need a PAC. I have a suggestion on a person who could be a great help in starting "TechPAC". Newt Gingrich. He has the exprence that a new PAC would absolutly need to get notice enough to make their voice heard. I am not shure where he stands on "tech" issues, but his name would get some people to listen.
Yes, to all, Tom Baker would have been a great thing. But this could also be a great thing too. Sylvester McCoy was the Doctor in one of the best episodes (Silver Nemesis) ever. I love old time radio and know the Hitchhikers guide from memory, if this is done right it could be just as good. Lets give it a chance.
Could part of the reason the AFTRA is asking for 300% be the new forms of listening to web radio that are coming out? From reports I have seem on the web from sources like Techtv.com and reports from the consumer electronic show listen to web radio is getting a great del easier. The easier it gets the larger the listen audience. Maybe the AFTRA is just trying to secure the pay now for a future increase in web audience. Or perhaps they are afraid of losing the local listening audience to the web.
As for as Clearchannel goes, may somebody slay that demon. I live near Cleveland Ohio. About a year ago I called up a rock station to request a song for my buddy for his birthday. He is a great Pro Wrestling fan and his current favorite is Rob Van Dam(RVD) From the former ECW wrestling promotion. RVD comes out to Walk by Pantera. My friends and I where informed that while they did indeed have the song, WMMS had list of songs they could play from and that going away from that list would mean that person playing the nonlisted song would get fired. WTF I have heard of a station playing a special request before, and it was not like I asked them to play Garth Brooks and a metal station. Cleveland radio is just bad. I listen to 90% of my radio from the net and a mini FM transmitter. I only listen to local radio in the car and the day I find a way to listen to web radio in the I buy it.

Tom's Hardware had an article a few days ago about an 815e duale motherboard. It still can only have 512 Megs of memory but still looks interesting. For the record I am Pro AMD but a not sure about the chipsets. I can still dream about a Thunderbird running on an Intel chipset. What a machine. - Firefox
I have never been in a union, but the memebers that I know do not think like people in the tech. world. Many of them talk about staying with the same company for many years, most techs I know say you should not stay with the same compay for more then four. They talk how the union gets them good pay and benefits, no shortage of those that I know of. I just don't think that teches think union.
It is nice to see that people can express love and concern for their country without getting hostile toward others. Good luck there, and say a prayer for those of us down here and we will do the same.
PS Not a religious nut, but need help from wherever we can get it.
Don't Panic

Well, it did get one person to take notice already.
