IT geeks tend to think that the more confusing their dialogue sounds, the smarter they'll be percieved.... This is 100% not the case,
Much as I hate to post a "Me Too", I totally agree! The people who have always struck me as intelligent are not those that I don't understand, but those who can explain new things to me in a manner that I do understand.
Come on! People are always loyal to brands. They all use Internet Explorer, and Word for Windows. Many people like to buy Sony products. They feel Kazaa is a name they can trust.
There is a large choice of bitrates. It depends on the popularity of the song, but I've downloaded music at 64kbps, 112kbps, 196kbps 256kbps and 320kbps.
You haven't actually provided any evidence to suggest I'm wrong, so stop trolling.
apt-get sucks. I can't install from a CD using it, and if I have no idea what application I need, it's no use at all.
Yes, I am referring to how outlook starts up windows messenger, and the way it can load an application based on the file type. Sure, KDE can do that, but only from utilities built in to KDE.
Why the hell do I want to drag an 800x600 window around? This is not something I do on a daily basis.
What people want (and MS seems to be slowly taking away from them) is a simple easy to use OS with a fast responsive GUI, that you can easily install applications on.
Linux doesn't fit the bill. While it is simple to use at a basic user level, the various applications are not at all integrated. Applications are fiddly to get to work properly. X is slow unless you work at it.
The thing is, it appears that telemarketing is considered acceptable by our representatives, assuming they play by certain rules. Since they are not actually doing anythign wrong (legally speaking), they have a right not to be inhibited in carrying out their trade in a legal manner.
The people who use it because it's free aren't exactly going to help pay for Kazaa in any way whatever happens. However, there will still be a hard core of loyal supporters, and Kazaa has a brand name.
A lot of people like P2P because they like to get music in mp3 format. We're largely opposed to DRM, but wouldn't object to paying a small charge per song for a fairly flexible format that we can copy from one device to another easily, with a large choice of bitrates.
If the lawyer is at all competent, then it shouldn't make any difference. It's either someone who can't quite use correct English who thinks he knows the law, or someone who can use correct English who thinks he knows the law. either way, it's up to the lawyer to determine whether he thinks correctly.
People are remarkably stupid when confronted with new technology. They're scared of clicking on the drive icon (or just unable to associate the picture of a computer on the "My computer" icon with a CD-ROM drive).
MS doesn't do anything to combat this paranioa. They simply target the market as it is. This is what they should be doing since they are a software company, led by marketing, not a educational establishment led my improvement fo the human race. Not a fault with MS per se, but a problem with the entire industry.
Personally, I hate autorun. I like to know what my computer's doing.
Yes, but they do offer me unlimited TV for a month, or unlimited cable access. They aren't going to shut it off if I watch more than a certain number of shows, or download more than a certain number of megabytes.
It's a nuisance having all the notes different colours. They become less uniform. It's bad enough that they have different pictures on them. Can't they all be the same except for the value? Only the laziest of people and those stupid Canucks can't be bothered to read the number.
What's even more annoying is that small change comes in different sizes. Not only that, but the sizes are illogical. I mean come on! 5c is bigger than 10c! We need to make themn all the same size and all the same colour to remove this confusion.
Drill some holes in the wall. Put some shelves up. There's a hell of a lot more space at 4ft about floor level.
Yeah, but you may be in a position to deserve to be arrogant. Besides, you say you have people skills. They count for a lot.

We get that in Europe too. It means "More expensive than..."

What does it tell ? That mach was older than linux, so it was bigger. Now the linux kernel is a fat pig.
I think it tells us that while there are differences between monolithic kernels and microkernels, size isn't one of them.

but it's damn easy to quickly pull out a fiver for a pint.
No it's not. Hardly any machines give them out, so if you get one in your change it's usually been so well used that it's disintegrating.
UK currency really needs a 5 coin. Maybe a thick septagonal gold coloured coin would be a logical choice
Freedom of speech should not be extended to those who seek to curtail the freedom of speech
Why the hell not!? Freedom of speech is a right. Not a luxury good to be traded.
Counterfiting has been going on since the dawn of currency
That's true. Ancient chinese banknotes had writing on them to the effect that the penalty for forgery was death.
Actually, I'm Latvian, educated in Australia, and now a citizen of the US.
This also is a lie.

That would be fair and reasonable. Trouble is, they charge you for those 40 downloads, whether you downlaod them or not. Sounds a little unfair.
By the way - When will /. offer a subscription with an unlimited number of pages?
Euro - what a shitty name for currency!
It makes the name of budget black holes like "Eurofighter" so much mnore appropriate though

If n people submit assignments that are largely the same, divide score by n.
In other news, Schrodinger becomes new CEO of SCO.
Hld on.. Isn't that the one SCO is claiming to own?
Most of the time, if you want to do this, you may as well just call or just fax.
If it absolutely HAS to get there, demand a reply. Resend if you don;t get it.
