Okay okay you got me. but do this, record an athletic event (track and field events are good) then watch it in super slow mo. you will see muscle and limb contortions that look damn near impossible. In real time you don't see them because they occur too fast. same with the fx. if it happens too fast to notice in realtime, what does it matter that you can see a floating truck in a frame by frame analysis.

Since I haven't seen it yet (still downloading) the big question is....how does it look at full speed? If it looks fine at full speed then what is the issue? Here is an experiment for you to try. Take your Digital 8 or better camera and spend the day recording everyday occurences. Then go home and analyze the video frame by frame. You will find frames that look goofy and unnatural as well. Plus you will have wasted even more of your life looking for flaws that do not matter:)

The GPL is not neutral. The concept of equality/free use is not inherent in a capitalistic/freemarket economy. Socialism and Communism (I am talking Communism as a theory not as practiced over the last 80+ years) lean/push those types of ideals.
A freemarket requires winners and losers to drive competition in the market place. Not equality.

I am not advocating one theory over another.

  11. Re:Diamonds Part II on Dawn Of The Diamond Age? · · Score: 1

There was a bit of a stink several years ago about manufactured diamonds. General Electric while researching how to make industrial grade gems in a less costly manner developed a method for making "perfect" gem quality diamonds. GE said "Whoo hoo! We are going to be more rich!" DeBeers(the South African company which controlled the diamond market for much of the century and still has an immense amount of control)got wind of this and whispered "Pssst Hey...GE... if you promise not to market this technology and stop development we will slip you some cash" Since GE did not want to get in to the jewelry business and DeBeers was offering a sizable sum they agreed. But, there was a problem. Someone blew the whistle and the US government decided that the agreement between GE and DeBeers was illegal. However, realizing that if this diamond manufacturing process became widely distributed it would send the precious gem market into a tailspin they gave GE and DeBeers a slap on the wrist for "Price Fixing" in the diamond trade. No mention of the new manufacturing process. Now it is common knowledge that "perfect" diamonds can be manufactured but everyone agrees not to make them because it would just end up hurting everyone's bottom line. The entire market value for diamonds is fabricated. Kind of interesting.

Why do some of you refuse to pay for software? Is it a compulsion? I am not just talking about MS apps. Several posts here say something to the effect of "Just wait for the cracks and then you can use the ad version with no ads". If you like the browser and don't want ads why not pay for it and reward the software company that designed it? How is a software designer supposed to pay his/her bills if they don't get paid for it? Would someone please explain this to me?

What I meant by the "Typical Slashdot BS" is that from the tone of the post he was dismissing the software just because it is from MS. I am not a big proponent of MS. However, some of their products are excellent. At my place of employment we use Windows 2000 and FreeBSD on the server side. Personally I use BeOS on my desktop but we have a mix of Windows 2000/98 and FreeBSD as clients. We use what works best for us. P.S. Checkpoint...what's that? ;)

As to the secure, scalable, stable question Win2000 is more than capable if you take the time to lock it down and don't put it on hardware that is not compatible. Those rules apply to any OS. Is linux stable if you put it on hardware that has crap drivers? NO! Same with the BSDs. You also have to take the time to lock down *nix boxes as well. In reality you should roll your own kernal if you really want to secure Linux. I suppose you just use the default RedHat,Debian,TurboLinux install right? Doubtful. If you are a good admin you take the time to secure your box. In addition any admin who rejects a solution out of hand without actually evaluating the product should be banished to the HD. Also, why is it that most posts that use foul language or attack others come from Anonymous Cowards? No balls I guess.

This question never should have been posted. It is just crap. Exchange works just fine. I feel MS' licensing is outragous but that is another story. Complaints about stability are BS. It is like any other piece of software. If you don't configure it right or you run it on hardware that is not on the HCL you will have problems. It is possible although not mentioned in the post that managment is looking at the calendaring and workflow functionality that exchange makes easy to use. Exchange licensing is cheaper than Lotus Notes and OpenMail(hp's groupware/mail product). If they are just using email and have no need for the groupware functionality then I would say stick with what you have otherwise do research..don't make stupid biased posts on Slashdot.
