The Tylor DVD boxed set was shipped with 5 minutes of footage missing. Nothing critical, but still annoying. No one noticed it until AFTER it had shipped. They didn't go "oh fuck it, let's ship anyways."
THEY HAVE ALREADY PREPARED NEW DISCS, AND ARE PREPARING FOR A SWAPOUT.
And you only need $3.75 for shipiing. ANYWHERE ON THIS PLANET.
USA anime companies are dragged down by a notable few (ADV, CPM, VIZ) but those that try (Pioneer, Bandai, TRSI, Media Blasters) create excellent stuff. And ADV, Bandai, Pioneer, Media Blasters, Animeigo, and many others do listen. www.animeondvd.com has a message board where various studio representatives do talk with fans. That's where the primary movement against overlays in EVA was carried out (and look, no more overlays). As well the discovery of the bug on Tylor disc 4.
You sound like someone who just downloads anime for free, and likes to whine about companies who actually take the time to bring it over to the states.
The ACTUAL release date for both is October 30 (which is a Tuesday, the most common day for new releases).
And yes, like Taco-san, I'm waiting to get Eva 6 as well. May the mayhem continue!
I assume that as it stands, only BMG artists will be allowed on napster. This basically is a big "fsckyou" to all the indie artists or those who aren't signed with a major label.
Also, what about incomplete downloads, poor encodes, or mislabeled songs?
These are probably all questions asked a billion times or more, and will see if this lives or dies.
Also, why is it that when an anime-topic gets posted, normally sane slashdot posters all of a sudden turn TROLL? They go off on a tangent criticizing it, asking why it's here, saying it sucks probably never having seen ANYTHING of worth (you know robotech/speed racer are old now, don't you?).
Depends on what you watch. GitS wasn't, Perfect Blue wasn't. Nor was Lain. Evangelion wasn't targeted towards kids either, even though they probably watched it for the mechas.
But then, why can't you shut the fuck up and let people enjoy what they want to?
Oh yeah, cause you're an asshole who wants to make everyone think like he does.
Ah, 'scuse me, thank you.
I always like wiping my ass with a troll. Makes me feel so much cleaner.
Manga == "Frivolous Drawings" literally
Anime == loanword for animation
Manga are to Japan what comics are to us, only in Japan, a good manga will become an anime, whereas here it's turned into an OK movie.
Most anime in Japan is based on a manga, such as Battle Angel, Ranma 1/2, GitS, all of Dragonball and DBZ, and even Evangelion.
Unfortunately, the anime often ends up highly compressed (GitS), butchers the story (Battle Angel), or ends up REALLY long (DB/DBZ).
Others take it and make it beautiful, such as Evangelion.
I prefer the manga over the Anime at times (such as with Battle Angel), but take your pick, both are great.
DON'T BUY FROM SUNCOAST
They charge full MSRP, which for most anime is $30/disc.
90% of anime released in the US is dubbed/subbed, dvd mastered, and mass produced here in the States, it's just that the market isn't really that big, so prices are high.
Either buy online from some small retailers (www.animenation.com), maybe buy.com, or even (horror of horrors) amazon.com (this is why i hate one-click. makes it too easy to buy anime/manga!) They're all at least $5-$10 cheaper.
Personally it looks good to me, integrated carrying handle and all. Just need to see more specs on the thing, and the price on this thing. If it's cheap enough, I might try to get one...
Unlike VHS, the video isn't encoded in PAL or NTSC on the disk, but in some arbitrary HxW (slightly higher than NTSC, or PAL, whichever is higher resolution) using standard MPEG-2 that the DAC converts to either NTSC or PAL before output.
No, copyrights are OK. Open source depends on it. What they're fighting is patents, usually stupid shit patents we see all the time ie "one click patents" or other things patented SOLELY for the purposes of lawsuits, lawsuit defense, or royalty collection.
Regulation is what we need but don't have, what we have but don't need are more software patents.
Yeah, I have the 0:1 dvd. It definitely looks like it was taken from an analog source to the dvd, with a glitch here in there. Even though, it does not detract from the disc. I can only guess that the reason 0:2 is taking longer is because they saw response to 0:1, and want to avoid it.
What they do is really, really, stretch out something that happens really quickly in the manga.
/po/ here has the manga, scanned and translated, from the fight with the Ginyu to the end, on the website. Makes for a quick download, not a quick read, but MUCH better than the show (and you don't have to wait).
IMO, DBZ is great because at times (when you have enough episodes), it can be mindless fun. Although the manga is better, the show (japanese subbed!) is just something to watch.
I agree with you on Ghost in the Shell, it seemed to me that they wanted to create another Akira, with the expansive matte paintings, and eerie music, but it just didn't work as well.
I have no real definition of a good anime, but some of the best I have is Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, the Tenchi Muyo! OVA Boxed set, and Patlabor 1 The movie.
Check your facts.

Ya'll are slow.
This was on Anime on DVD a couple days ago.
The ACTUAL release date for both is October 30 (which is a Tuesday, the most common day for new releases).

It's probably a bootleg DVD, meaning Gainax was in no way compensated for their work.
Get the Manga release, and you support Gainax, instead of a bunch of Taiwanese bootleggers.
Or rather, this troll account was created BEFORE your account was
dunno what you're rambling about. if it didn't annoy you, you wouldn't have replied in the first place!
my actual account userid ranks in at under 60000, this is just, as you can see, an annoy and cause irritation account.
ironic, considering this troll count is newer than yours is.
It still annoyed you, didn't it?
I think it worked =]
So how/who will provide the music?

my gaffe, i fixed it
La Blue Girl
I've never seen it, personally. But from those who like that sort of thing, they recommend it highly.
#WASHU# One question. Where/what is it? I know (finally!) the character reference (Washu rules!), but is it some club or something?
Ah. Similar to the Gundam Wing comics... Oh well, gotta pick among what comes along, and discard the crap as ya go...
Sorry.
Slashdot switched me to HTML Formatted and won't let me switch it back.
But I may go to one, in any event.
I would ask all trolls to please go away.
*sacrificing my karma, for the sake of curiosity*
Never ask a troll for it's point. It never has one. It has only one rationale. Arrogance.

Do the following words ring a bell?
Scotty
LaForge
Dyson Sphere
Transporter Cliché
Yup... Sounds like your standard star trek episode =]
(note: i used to be a big trek fan, but yeah, it's the biggest cliché in the world now!)
