why on earth would you call South Africa a third world country? any country with its own weapons industry does not qualify as a third world nation. in my book anyway.

well, if only one person knows the combination to the safe, then you can always brute force open the safe upon their death. (locksmith, cobalt (or carbide) drills, explosives, the Blue Wrench (tm), etc.)

I guess in the future there will be specialized hackers called passsmiths or cracksmiths. or would that be one who makes crack? or maybe some thing modern like Access Control Facilitators. A rose by any other name...

Do you think you'll be using the computer you use now in 20 years? There are a lot of nasty chemicals used in semiconductor manufacture. At least PV should last at least 20 years.

Well, you can't raise the price of sunlight. What other technologies need more development? and how much time and money are "we" spending on PV? I for one, if I actually owned a house, would look towards PV in order to be independent of the electric grid. I do happen to have a Pelton wheel turbine (water wheel) stashed away, if only I lived next to a suitable stream....

Do you know why Al bike frames are stiff (and fat)?

Al has very poor fatigue strength. Do you see many Al springs? Ti (and steel) has very good fatigue strength. If you use fatter tubing, it will be more rigid. If it's rigid, it will not fatigue as easily. Ti has more strength and good fatigue characteristics, so they can use skinnier tubing (same is true for steel, only heavier). I have an Al bike frame too. But I have it for it's corrosion resistance (compared to steel) plus, I got a good deal on it. I don't ride enough to even think of having a Ti bike (or a carbon one).

no, it shouldn't expire the day you die. Someone may kill you in order to expire your copyrights. There should be a time length after you die (something reasonable like 10 years).

I agree that your children should make there own way. I won't be getting any royalties off of my father's 30+ years of work (he is an engineer not an author or artist)

  8. Re:Nothing replaced floppys cuz no new format is o on Sony Announces Upcoming 1.3GB CD Products · · Score: 1

Well no _new_ format is open. 3.5" and 5.25" MO disks are open. Kinda slow on writes but have nice incremental sizes and backward compatibility. New 1.3GB drives (in the 3.5" size) can accept older 128, 230, and 640MB media. And it is cross platform (the media, not the data format). Supposed to be really reliable too.
