The PS2 has a 300mhz processor, and only 32mb of ram. In the pc world is a 1ghz with 512mb of ram. You must also remember that USB has 12mbps of bandwidth which would make it pretty much impossible to store video on a usb hard drive. Not to mention the HD is only 20gb.
Sure, they say it can't be done, but most of that is just PR BullSht. It shouldn't be difficult for third parties to make a component allowing pure vga-out. And besides, they don't want vga-out on the xbox. This is because when the average consumer sees vga for xbox, they will think "Hmm, VGA is a computer term... i hate computers... i think i'll go get a gamecube."
Sure you could do scan conversion from NTSC to VGA, but the Xbox is capable of 1920x1080 (HDTV), so there would need to be a special output adapter that connects to the back of the console to take full advantage of what your monitor can handle. I have searched the 'net endlessly to no avail for an xbox vga-out "adapter". I read somewhere that because microsoft wants to keep people from thinking that the xbox is exactly like a computer, they will have no vga-out option, no keyboard, no mouse, and no web browsing (note: broadband and web browsing ARE two different things.) I think this is a serious waste of the capabilities of the Xbox, and i really hope that third parties will release keyboards/mice/vga adapters/web browsing software for the Xbox.
Microsoft could have "donated" their passport "technology" to the government, and we all know that could lead to very bad things. Damned be the day that my hotmail account is bound to a National ID Card!
I have asked myself the same question, and i have not been able to find any hardware allowing this yet. I read a review somewhere of thps2x, and it said "...It will run a silky-smooth 60 frames per second, and will also include VGA support for discriminating gamers...". So maybe Microsoft is planning to release one in the near future. My opinion is that it should have been built in, considering that the xbox is basically a proprietary computer (it couldn't be that hard to do, right?)
On the net there is just too much content, and too many ways of accessing it to just put one big filter on an entire nation. I say they should make the ISPs responsible for it.
It should be in Microsoft's best interest to sponsor Transmeta and dig them out of the hole considering all of the effort they are putting into developing web pads and tablet pcs. Even though Microsoft isn't manufacturing them, their superior battery life is one of the biggest advantages tablet pcs would have.
Correct, but there has been lots of speculation that it would be ready sometime around November or December. I'm running sid (unstable) anyway, so i am not very worried about future woody releases.
you could always invent wireless power... just a thought

You could do what i do in The Sims. Just put them all in a small room, and remove the door. They'll get to know eachother

actually, AOL was one of the people who proposed a contract

3.0 (Woody) was frozen around July, and they said it would be ready around November. I guess that was just wishful thinking.
