If I remember correctly, xine has the best performance, but can't do subtitles very well, and the interface isn't great. Videolan has very very strange audio artfacts (audio slows down, speeds up) last time I checked, and nearly as good video.
This new one, ogle, has menu support, but seems to suck otherwise.
nothing does multiple angles well that I've seen. a lot of titles use it now (like the Matrix) and if they aren't dealt with you get funny things happening. A perfect disc to try out a player is Princess Monononononoke: it is 16x9, has subs, and is multi angle all in the first 30 seconds. it's a very good test.
and remember that you can set GRIP up to use freedb as the primary server, and cddb as the secondary. If a disc is on cddb but not freedb, grip will submit the details for you. You just push "ok." very very wasy.
but I thought people decided that micropayments wouldn't work, mostly because people hate paying for everything. The mere act of needing to decide to buy becomes overwhelming when you need to buy everything. Thus a paper newspaper sells the whole paper, not individual sections or individual articles. There are links I'm sure people could supply.
In any case, I think if a _network_ charged people fees it might work. An artist could have a very small webspace to introduce people, or show just today's comic, but then you'd subscribe to, say, keenspot for 3 bucks a month and you'd have access to the whole network. I would do that.
the paypal donation method also works ok, but given NPR's need for underwriting it's not sustainable on its own.
ah, but that depends on how much 9000$ is worth to the buyer. For me, 3000$ for an SACD player (tho they have come down a from that) is totally out of my reach, for others it is chump change. There was a guy on the hometheaterforum(.com) that dropped 3K$ on two dvd players because he couldn't choose between them.
grip does this. I have the primary server set to freedb, and secondary server set to cddb. If the data is not on freedb, it says "the information is on the secondary server but not on the primary. would you like to submit the information to the primary server?" I click yes, and that's it. very painless
well, it could be wrong, or they might be using (GASP!) a different 3d card. nVidia cards are fast, but isn't ATI radeon also supported? Those are supposed to be good cards too.
remember that redhat did not write all of those little programs, they simply include them. Imagine if windows came with Eudora, and mozilla, an aol client, whatever cd burning software people use... and it was all optional. See the difference?
If you go to the "how they did it" page, you'll see they did some extensive "color correction," or as we normally call it "photoshopping."

Just some god damn competition in the industry! It's funny, we look at coke and pepsi ragging on eachother and pulling stunts and it seems normal, but when the computer industry actually starts to compete we think it's war! It just shows how little competition there has actually been for the past 6 years.
this is slightly off. The copyrighted _works_, the movies, are definitely speech. It's DeCSS, the _program_, that is in question. Also recall that the previous judge drew an analogy with political assassination, which, while expression, is too dangerous to allow. He decided that yes, decss was expression, but the possible future harm to corporate profits was too big a price to pay for that expression.
well the point of pnm is so that people can't just download and redistribute your video files easily, I think. With http you paste and save-as, and then you don't need the server
I'm still waiting for aic7xxx fixes... my main drive often doesn't unmount properly on reboot/shutdown, meaning I have to fsck most times I boot up. please please fix this aleready!
This company released its first products a long time ago, like 1996-97. Why are they only getting a patent now?
"will also review other 3D sites who may be using [their] technology to ensure [they] are fully compensated"
Aha! This is quite clearly, at least to me, a stab in the dark at getting money. See, their current business model isn't working, and they aren't getting any money. So they figure, "If I can't get money legitimately, I'll sue people!" So they go around claiming that everyone owes them money. This is the last gasp of a dying company, I think.
I'll make a bet: if this ploy fails, they will go on fuckedcompany.com very soon after.
the ip addresses are only freesearch servers, not freenet. While everyone running freesearch must run freenet, the reverse is not true, so freenet is still safe.
66% anonymous:). 1. uploading is anonymous. 2. downloading is anonymous. 3. searching is not. Thus, 66%.
also, I will be adding support for import/export of freenet keyindexes, greatly improving file retention.
Lastly, freesearch can fill out comments for any file type, but someone needs to write a handler for each type. It's very extensible in this way.

the menu stuff is amazing. I never thought that would get done. Is there any information on how it was achieved?

does anyone know which season featured the "family therapy" episode, where they shock eachother non-stop and cause a blackout?
what about
KING (tho he can't be a king, no?): Oh, go get a glass of water

I don't worry about the ease-of-use issue that much. Look at the net, look at linux... it will happen.
is this feature in the linux version as well?

tsk tsk, you forgot the golden rule: he who has the gold, makes the rules

the throbber is totally replaceable, you can make your own. it's just an animated gif.
note that he has abandonned his own system for now.
I guess it's a bad sign when the site with the new code is slashdotted itself

Let's play "read the article!": "2600's lawyers are entirely familiar with Touretzky's Gallery, so forget about those."
people wasted a mod-5 on this? oops.
