I may be a little bit paranoid, but I started last week to read the "1984" book again and this story about keeping track of customers purchasing used copies makes me think:
These could be the first steps to have a database of WHERE the information is...just in case you'd like, one day, to "RECTIFY" the history, by collecting, burning and printing that information again in a "CORRECTED" version, erasing every proof of what things originally were.
By looking at how they modified some movies, before the DVD release, I think it makes sense.
I wrote an e-mail to Mr. Ferson half an hour ago, using "customerrelations@compaq.com. So it's too late for me, but thanks anyway. I encourage everyone here to write to him as well.
I saw some posts saying that HP should fire him, but I disagree. They should just explain him what's wrong (provided they think it's wrong, of course) with his reaction and how he should behave in the future. That's part of the learning process :
Think, act, learn from the result.
By doing so, it may be much more productive and avoid the perverse effect seen in most of the European Soccer Championships where trainers and coaches get fired one after the other after a few games only. Everyone is frustrated and nothing gets better. They just found someone to blame.
Here, in the French talking part of Switzerland, there's no confusion at all :
"Coke" means Cocaine. "Coca" means Coca-Cola.
In the Italian speaking part and in France too.
In the Swiss-German part, you have to say "Cola" to get a Coca-Cola. But if you walk in the street of Zurich and say "Coke" to someone... you might get some... but surely no Coca-Cola !-)
It really is too bad...they always miss the target. Shop windows are broken, cars are burned, people are injured, public infrastructures are damaged and guess who suffers from it ?
Your wife, that worked in that shop. Your neighbour, who bought his car last week. Your friends, some of them being protesters, others being policemen, and so on... All of you, struggling to pay the taxes supposed to be used to build these public infrastructures.
But, believe me, these fat buck-eaters won't even sleep bad tonight. Their big Mercedes is still parked in their huge property in front of their obscenely expensive house. Meanwhile, people who worked 40 years in mines are starving with their families, in supposedly "civilized" countries. They were fired a year ago, to accomodate some investors wanting to increase their "earning per share" by buying from countries where unpaid prisoners (should we say slaves, or isn't it politicaly correct ?) are forced to dig 14 hours a day.
Violence isn't the problem. You can't win a war by sitting on the floor, waiting for the next rubber bullet or gas can to hit your head. The Tibetans know it.
Don't let them rise ourseleves against each others. Again, don't miss the target : Burn their somptuous villas, take their Mercedes, build on their land, if you really want them to care about you... or shut up and go back to work.
