Yep, and the WAP technology itself isn't dying either. We just transfer different stuff over the Wireless Application Protocol.

Saying WAP is dead is like saying HTTP is dead, just because you're transferring images and movies over it nowadays, instead of just plain old text.

I think your analogy-creativity is running a bit wild ;) but I mostly agree with you and some of the other persons replying that having to press ALT is bad for a number of reasons. Using both hands to manipulate windows=bad (though my left hand is usually already in place for pressing the alt-key), conflict with applications=bad (but still no problems after two months of use, don't use blender though).

For me the benifit of not having to aim for a very small screenarea outweighs the cons. It's the same user interface rule that puts the Apple-menubar at the top of the screen and gave us the wheelmouse instead of aiming for the scrollbar. Also I've been toying with using the extra buttons on my intellimouse for window control instead of the ALT+combo.

You move any window by pressing alt, then click anywhere in the window and drag. It is EXCELLENT, and when you think about it, isn't it really weird to have to aim for a small title bar to move the window? Like having to grab the top end of a paper on your desk to move it.

And the source is very simple and readable, I'm not at all used to programming X applications, but had no trouble adding a couple of features I wanted (like snap to the edge of the screen)

I first thought it worked just fine, it seems like it grabs quotes from pages on other sites that link to the specific site. But I noticed a trend in all quotes: they are almost always positive about/pro-whatever the site is about.

I thought about it and it's probably a result of how the web is built, I guess you are much more likely to link to a site whose opinions you share?

It would be really nice if you could specify if you wanted Pro or Con quotes. Or both. But then that's probably not trivial to implement.

Could and should be solved with versioning, just like we do it when writing code.

"But versioning contains the concept of saving", you say. Not necessary, have a look at the "undo"-feature. Undo is a simple and crude form of versioning, without any mentioning of saving.

How about an undo that lets you say "take this document back to the way it looked two hours ago"?

    Think about it.

Many, many times. Just the other day I was looking at a new apartment and wanted a second opinion from my friend, I really wanted to be able to just quickly show her around the place, it would have been perfect with a mobile videophone.

And I'm sure you will think of ways to use it too as soon as you realize that you actually can! What I'm getting at is that once the possibility is there and is simple/transparent enough, people will dream up a thousand uses for it. (Including 950 uses for sex of course.)

Just think about it for a second. Stationary videophones failed because everyone knows pretty much what our friends look like (and if you didn't, you would after the first call).

But cellphones are mobile. Suddenly we will have the ability to transmit snapshots and live moving images and sound of our current surroundings, wherever we are. This is personal live television (and more. much more.)

The most important thing to recognize is the fact that this has nothing to do with technology enabling us to work remotely. When your work mainly concerns creative, intellectual work such as programming, systemsdesign etc, 50-90% of the job is done in your head. No need for computers, pda's or even paper (but the latter often really comes in handy).

My point is that whenever your work consists of problemsolving you are at work 24 hrs a day and you better make sure your employer knows this. If you don't you'll be stuck in front av a terminal at least 8 hrs a day and, at least for me, that is definiatly not the most productive place in the world. Take a walk, have a coffee. Then later when the ideas are in place, enter codeflow and a big session infront of the computer. But make sure you're paid for both parts of the show!
