    Try taking measurements over a more reliable timescale to measure global climactic changes.

    OT unfortunately, however...

    What utter nonsense. MS has never taken away your freedom to choose. You can choose whatever browser or OS you like. Whether anyone else uses that same browser or OS is the question.. and whether you can interoperate or have synergy as a result is another question. Most people use MS because they have been successfully duped into choosing it. They have not had their freedom to choose anything else, taken away.

    *How* they have successfully duped the population at large is an entirely different matter, and is even more OT.

    For all those who think they can hack past IIS (worm or no worm), this guy:

    ..has laid down the challenge. Apparently he's been in contact with some hackers and challenged them, and they failed. According to them, with all the latest security patches applied, IIS 5 is solid... until they find the next exploit :-)

    Then why didnt you say this in the first place?

    Open Source is *not* about forcing others to open their source. By the same token, denying people the right to give their code away is like denying freedom of speech.

    Not on purpose, just they dont have the wherewithall to do it properly.

    The .NET framework and CLR have no VM

    Gee it's nice to be pedantic.

    If you agree that a VM is tough to build, then you'll agree that a CLR would be tougher to build, seeing as it's more complex than a VM.

    The internet does not, and cannot, control what content is available to you using a browser. Users decide what content to make available to others using a browser, and what content to download.

    Do they? Or are they presuming the privacy issues? The fact that other customers can see them there is obvious, but how do they know what the proprietor will do in respect of the customers spouse.. or potential marketing firm?

    Yep... so feature laden that it doesn't even conform to ISO 8879 (SGML).

    It's about time they forgot about adding more "features", and started bringing it up to standard.

    Yeah, I gave it a try.. my first (I havent tried previous builds).. and basically, it still sucks!!

    It doesnt render controls in the right font, the preferences dialog doesnt work properly, and the UI is horrid in some parts, even in the "Classic" theme.. and I haven't even looked at all the "features" yet.

    If builds improve from one to the next, the others must be absolute shockers. I'll "try" the next one, perhaps in the vain hope that they might at least actually conform to the ISO for SGML next time.

    It would really be nice to see them open up some of their other great products, such as their compilers and IDE's. It would be nice to see them open these up, or at least port them to Linux

    Actually, Borland's cash cow is Delphi - not C++B In the Q2 results, Delphi/C++B made up 31% of revenues, JBuilder 23%. As the 31% is an aggregate, I'd say JBuilder is closer to being the "cash cow". Given that it was 18% in Q1, and combined with recent developments on the Java front (eg Mac OS X), it certainly will be before the year is out.

    The reason why there's no Kylix software to take home is that it's still in beta, and the beta program is closed.

    This doesn't mean that betas can't be demo'd.

    Incidentally, the final proceedings CD is usually never available til weeks after the conference anyway...

    Delphi's compiler is already blindingly fast, so there's no reason to assume that they're using high powered machines to pull the wool over anyone's eyes.

    The report looks like something that actually happened at BorCon. How does this make it a rehash of a press release?
