You can't be ethical and be a multi-billion company at the same time. Money is dirty.

If I was Gates, I'd be freakin' pissed. He started M$, they came up with Window$, and now people are treating him like he stole Window$ or something. It's his own damn thing!!! I don't care if AOL and Netscape can't make it because M$ bundles Explorer with Windows. It's their own damn product, you buy it if you like it, you don't if you don't. You don't _have_ to use Window$. And M$ is as far away from a monopoly as anybody else. A monopoly means "no choice." You _do_ have a choice in this case. That's why this whole affair is sooo ridiculous.
I'm sick and tired of this deal, and they should leave M$ alone, and Time Warner should go eat shit and realize that they made a bad business decision, and they should move away from the browser/internet messaging industry... Writing a browser for Window$ is an incredibly idiotic idea to begin with.

Who are you to determine what OSS needs? Linux, in this case, is being managed by Linus out of his bedroom, in his free time. If Linus (who by the way you can't push out of the picture, since he is the creator of the OS and can pull the plug anytime he wants) wanted Linux to succeed in the "business world" he would have started a Linux company or something, looking for cash. Linux was never meant to fall in the hands of money sharks like IBM and Redhat. It was intended to be a free OS, which people can improve and pass around in their spare time. It's people like you that are bringing destruction to OSS by thinking that money is what should be the purpose of all things. Linus' response is the best response to M$'s OS bashing that I've seen in a long time. Original and sincere. No promotional bullshit.

These ideas are NOT far-fetched. They are all within our reach, and are only prevented from becoming reality by the way the current computing scheme is instilled in our minds, our behaviour, our culture. I don't care if they can manufacture nuclear weapons and are as the wisest of the wise, if their job description is 'BLAH' which includes duties 'blah1', 'blah2' and 'blah3' but NOT 'Nuclear weapon manufacturing' and 'Wise advice' then they DON'T bring squat to the company.
Age discrimination has been a very subtle way to make good profit off capable young people by mentally engineering them to believe that age is a factor in judging their wages.

But when you think about it, though: Who decides these wages? A bunch of old farts who have been with the company for 150 years and they think that seniority is the thing. Well, it's not. Open source software is great because it's built by programmers for programmers. Linux spells F-R-E-E-D-O-M. Linux is Linux because it's OPEN SOURCE!!! That simple! Linux is not the best OS. It's the OPEN SOURCE OS that has more developers working on it than any other OS. Linux is JUST A KERNEL! You can't talk shit that your X apps are not consistent. Linux doesn't even know or care that an X server exists. Imagine the disaster if it did! Linux is modular. Linux can be modified by anybody to fit their needs. The Playstation 2 development system is running Linux. That's because SONY tailored the kernel to fit their exact needs!

OS X and any other closed source OS cannot offer any of the above. If you're using a computer because clicking on pretty icons and moving semi-translucent windows around floats your boat, that so be it! But you cannot say that Linux is not a competent OS because applications that run on it are not consistent. With market OS's, you are forced into using them exactly the way they were supposed to be used. You are bound by their rules. On top of that, you are willingly putting $$$ that you worked hard for into the pockets of big shots like Gates and Jobs for crap OS's that you are not even sure they are not backdoor-ed. It's exactly like buying a car, and the hood is soldered shut, with no way to get to the engine. How can you even trust something like that? Do you REALLY trust someone whose only purpose on this planet is to make tons of money???
