One thing that is worth noting, is the fact that the Autorun feature (as well as the ability to install software, which in this case is necesary for this DRM program to work) on a Windows XP/2K machine is disabled for users that do not belong to either the Administrators or Powerusers groups; but last time I checked, anyone who logs onto the machine can listen to CD's.
I would have to say that this has also been my experience. I have a Dell C600, which came with what Dell liked to call a "Travel Module". All this is, is a plastic skeleton that is inserted into the battery slot when the laptop is plugged in (assuming of course that your battery is fully charged). Therefore, even though I bought my laptop almost 2 years ago, I am still using the battery that came with it.
There are several other people in my office building who got their laptops and docking stations at the same time I got mine, and they refuse to take the battery out of the laptop when on the docking station, or plugged in. Some of these people have gone through 3 or even 4 batteries in the same period of time (could this be what is happening to the writer?). As for battery life, I have never really cared to measure. All I can say is that I have never complained, nor had to shut down due to lack of juice.
YES!!! I want to help you denounce the evil that is slashdot! As soon as I finish posting this I will email you to..... oh wait, you posted as AC... STUPID TROLL! get a life!
Since the first article was posted on this, I kinda wondered what kind of a moron would not figure this one out before!!!
Our shop buys machines with the OS preloaded, therefore, you are paying for that copy of the OS (eliminating the need for a group license). Installing the new image has no effect on licensing, since it would be the same as removing all the crap that the OEM installed, and installing your in house applications/settings, only quicker! Just keep your Cert. of authenticity (sp) in a safe place and you are ok.
I happen to have a lot of respect for the net community, but I am kinda dissapointed when I see a lot of people go on in rants about "The government is doing this or that".... I have a few questions: If the government has the technology to spy on us, don't you think they are doing it already? and if they do have the technology, why would they make it public and create outrage in the community? For God's sake! take a Valium and email me in the morning! Like an earlier post said, I gues you have nothing to worry about unless you are a criminal.......
