I don't know anyone who elevated Steve Jobs to god status. I guess it's indicative of someone who's drastically out of touch when they get upset about something that doesn't really exist outside of their own head - while clearly dreaming of how wonderful everything would be if only he were worshipped.

I guess what I'm saying is that your comment says a lot more about you and your dreams than it does about the actual, real society we live in.

Yeah, and Apple makes more profit on smartphones than everyone else in the market combined. That's TOTALLY running scared.

Also, this is about tablets. I won't bother linking numbers here because it's 99% Apple, everyone else fighting for scraps.

This isn't running scared, this is Apple saying "We won't stand by while you try to use our work." I know that's not the Slashdot wisdom, but frankly Slashdot wisdom ain't exactly wise outside of certain limited facets of technology.

People are angry, but what they are angry about is that the universe hasn't handed them everything they want without them having to do anything to earn it. They are angry at the perceived injustice of the simple fact that the universe isn't fair. Boo-fucking-hoo, frankly. Get angry. Riot. Destroy everything. It won't get you anything you want, and it won't hurt anybody but the people who would nominally be on your side had you not hurt them.

It's a foolish response that has never worked, will never work, and frankly, shouldn't work. Justifying it, rationalizing it, and excusing it won't change that simple fact.

That's not "the world" friend. At best, it's a consumption-only province. Even considering that, there's no particular requirement that every product in every market meet your every need, and such a system never has and never will exist.

I know nerds can't bear the idea that there are people who would make different choices because OBVIOUSLY your choices are objectively superior, but hey! that's just how it is.

Is that what's happening here? Cause what it seems the court saw is that a Korean company decided to take for its own use protected intellectual property.

I guess it's hard to reconcile that with the geek dream that Apple is running scared, though. Also, Microsoft is dying.
