  1. Why not switch? on Google Promises Chrome Changes After Privacy Complaints (cnet.com) · · Score: 2

I really wonder why people reading slashdot still uses Chrome? I mean we are a bunch of people that are both aware of the issues with corporates seeing all we do online, we understand technology well enough to know how to switch and most of us care about open source. Chromium is a little better, but really what Mozilla is doing to a great extent is needed and should be supported (by for example using Firefox). I mean, we all remember the good old days when many pages only worked in IE6 right? And if all we end up with is a browser from either Google, Microsoft or Apple, it is not a lot better.

So really, why not switch? Performance reasons? All browsers are quick enough. Memory issues? They all use a lot of memory. Fancier ui? For me I see no logical reason at all to use Chrome or Chromium over Firefox, no reason from a technological standpoint and no moral reason either. And still usage of Chrome keeps going up, even among people in the tech industry. It saddens me a bit that people just do not think, or do not care about such an important thing as the web.

    1. To create content that not only is unplayable for the people that participate in it (how many times did medivh crash yesterday?) but also makes the game unplayable for us not participating in it really is very very crappy. Yesterday I had 172 mins wait in a queue before I could log on only to find the lag made the game unplayable and then all crashed and I gave up. It has been like this since christmas (more or less) and it really is unacceptable for a game 1 year old. I know that this was the last drop for me and will make me look for another game.

  3. Sure, its just a few sites but... on Firefox Browser On An Upward Trend · · Score: 1

... you cant deny that firefox is on a rise.

What we might see here is a the bigging of some change. Sure, firefox right now is maybe at 5% at some sites, at 10% on others and here on /. its maybe even at 40%. What is interesting is the change we see. Firefox is being more and more used by more and more people.

For me its a big big deal. It means it is harder and harder to make sites that only work well in IE. Since I cant use IE this is a great thing for me since it makes it much nicer for me to surf the net.

World dominance is of no importance. What I want is to have a firefox that is so big that the people making homepages make sure they work in them. And to me it looks like we are getting there... Quicker than I expected.

  4. But why not ddr-SDRAM on Intel To Drop Rambus Exclusivity, Support SDRAM · · Score: 1

Nice that they put out a new platform (if you wnat to get a budget p4-system) but why didn't they try to get it right from the start? Using non ddr-memory with the p4 is lika asking for crappy perferformance. Toms hardware tested the paltform here and came to the same conlusion. Still, I think I'll stick to athlon.
