That is a genetic fallacy. What his grandfather did to support the nazi party has nothing to do with geo w bush. They worked to sell these funds from 1923 to 1942. They may well have known this as a good deal rather than a dealing with a monster. At the time they started issues the nazis claimed to be socialists and not the facist regime they later turned out to be. An investment is about return on money, not about personal politics. Why would you personally invest when you knew it wouldn't work out due to politics?
Strange, I'm intelligent, self-moderating, and born to a low-income family. I suppose therefore I'm not an American.
Also, America can't be "stupid, petulant and born to privilege." Check your implied subject.
So many articles these days have little basis in logic. You are correct, they are guilty of a critical fallacy in their argument.
My take? I think the reason is simple: People are depressed, stressed, and disconnected because companies keep hiring ineffective managers who manage people instead of projects. That is to say, some of them do at least one right. Morale is a direct result of a person's situation. Managment should make sure that not only the project gets done, but that the employee is "up" to the task. Few things come close to the crushing defeat of two months work caused by your manager offhandedly scrapping a portion of a project.
Intelligence != common sense. I love my grandmother, but she talks to god instead of getting an idea. She is actually quite intelligent and well read, but she has no common sense. You may know and read every child care book, but you may wean your child at 1 mo. or 5 years because of book a or be. The logical thing would be to let the child wean his/her self. Common sense doesn't always prevail..
the Bush statment is an example of a post hoc argument. There is more an issue of cause and effect than anything, or rather a lost cause and effect. It could either be because so many people are on the internet and these crimes are purported to go up because of the openness of information flow, or it could be because it actually is a true statement. This seems to be a common thread in politics: it is a scapegoat for the real facts. But since everyone is so dedicated to distorting facts in the realm of politics and public opinion, it is not an open and shut case of statistics. Rather, accusations fly back in forth ad infinitum and nobody solves the problems, if they are indeed solvable. Perhaps it would be bettyr to try fixing things, instead of getting into arguments as to which way is best.
It can happen, Apple Did use "Born to be Wild," and in the process made me physically ill. But that was motion sickness at watching a slick hunk of plastic run around the screen. Damn that Chiat Day!
When I get telemarketer calls, I say "please do not call me again" in the most monotone, but somewhat powerful voice. Then again, I like to use this in meatspace as well. It makes people go away.
That's funny that RS is called Tandy in the UK, because in the 70s Tandy Leather shops used to exist here in the US. The truly funny thing is they were owned by the same company as RS. Strange indeed.
I unplugged my cat and tossed it on my bed. When I realised my (falsified) data was not safe, I deceded to abandon ship. They offer a gift cert of $10 to the shack, but the last time I needed to go there was about 3 years ago.

You mean "dangermouse, powerhouse, he's the fastest, he's the quickest he's the best?" It was my favourite cartoon growing up here in Pennsylvania.. I loved Pentho as well. "Oh Crumbs. Oh 'eck" still gets me to this day. And Grovel. Who can forget grovel? It's about the only think that kept me from speaking our local dialect when I was little. Why? because I found out people speak differently no matter where you go. The internet did a similar service to my spelling.
A recent register article mentioned British protest over MacOS and its terminated British-English version. I thought I'd mention it, even though their protests will do little good. Then again, they'd just have to change their spelling component under OS X to get it checking properly again.
Yes, but betamax was physically superior, badly marketed. eBooks are technically superior, but html is more portable. ebooks have marketing, and html has availability.
False. All books at uvirginia are available as html. Besides, most texts are covered under gutenberg project, or originally translated by. In fact, "age of reason" was not available in e-book format last I checked.
Is good point you make milesthecat. There are readers for sight-disabled peoples. Unfortunately, readers do no good when they are not transportable. On the TV show McGyver, actor Dana Elcar (McGyver's boss) was suffering from retinoapathy, and they wrote that into his character. He read with a very large font on the show. Newer personal readers are smaller, but still somewhat clumsy. You may not get good font out of handheld either. They only swing 10 points each way for most part.
Words cost money to put on paper. Katz uses too many words. Too bad costs readers when you put same words in electronic format like slashdot. Saw some good reviews on Jon Katz murder mysteries. I suppose this isn't same John Katz. Must be hard on other John Katz.
(I swear, he reminds me of some 50 year old going 'groovy!' all the time to prove he's still 'with it')
Does not "groovy" become synonymous with a broken record, stuck in rut? Is appropriate analogy. I may have nothing to add to threads, but at least I don't post ten page article with little impact on Slashdot, yes?
Nothing is real on the internet until it is censored of fabricated. ThinkGeek tells me geeks drink beer too. I have drunk alcohol, but never beer. Fabricate and stretch it is. The Internet is about publishing and marketing anymore.
Reverence and mystique for books comes from old days when books were scripted and not blocked out with press. Is unusual these days for books to have mystique. "Zen For Americans," written around 1909 had mentioned reverence and mysticism concerning books touching floor. This was because books were handmade and floors were dirt, not because of religion. Practical measures made books valued as mystical. These days, books are just books.
Can see Sony come along in no time to make bright yellow eBook with shower head hook or somesuch. They will call it "WalkBook Sport" or "VAIO Book" perhaps. Can find no reason to read under water or in shower -- Spend too much time in mornings there as is.
That depends on what your definition of is is.

Ok, now I'm aroused..
Damn, that's rather funny. I needed that..

Yeah, considering it's their trademark and all..
OK seriously, check out CPU ScoreCard to see the greatest value: an athlon. Whoot whoot!

Is this not like hitting lottery? You pay for nothing over and over, and one day you hit jackpot. Is random, yes? TANSTAAFL

Would like to see if Katz would SELL in e-format. Beg pardon, suppose Katz DOES "sell" this way, but does work stand on its own?
