I doubt it. As a base for building applications on top of, Linux and associated GNU software is far more mature and has many more full scale apps than the JVM (as an OS) ever had. Linux based OSes are easily available and easy to run with full software suites on common desktop hardware, unlike Suns JVM. MS has waited to long to try and re-use this same defence method.

This is virtually non-sensical to me. Can anybody explain this to me in English?

Microsoft admits that linux is going to obliterate windows.

Microsoft can not continue its current business model of assimilating applications into the operating system because the GPL would require complete opening and free distribution of MS source code whenever MS interfaced its code with GPL code. This would kill the current assimilation model.

Microsoft is vainly attempting to position itself to sit as a layer between the hardware and linux; and by doing so hopes to create a market place.

By doing this Microsoft is allowing linux to behave in a very similar fashion to Java and its VM.

The MS OS department is old and slowly breathing its last breaths. Its xbox offspring, however, is bouncing ahead!

How? MS is a monopoly, you will like what they give you, when they give it to you. It will not be bad for business because it will help you work faster when it arrives. It will be easier to work with and it will have more features. There is no serious competition or threat to the MS monopoly at the moment. Unless someone develops an easy to use (for joe six pack) OS that can run the current crop of MS apps, then MS has nothing to fear.

Leaving it to long would be a mistake, however, they have released it on schedule now that the intel have released their 64 bit processors. ahhh... the old wintel alliance.

For the average P2P user, who does not have a hacked client, there is a 1:1 ratio that must generally be stuck to, otherwise the P2P system doesn't work. This is especially true with BT. Other P2P networks allow different ratios. For most P2P users this means that their downloads are capped by the ammount that they upload.

I believe that it is technically possible to allow greater upload speeds, however, download speeds will suffer as a result.

The best person should be selected for the job. On average men are better at leadership and maths than women. That is why there are more men than women as CEOs. The femminazi movement would love to make some moves into corporate america and legalize discrimination against men by declaring that 50% of all corporate positions must be taken by women regardless of ability. These man hating women have already forced similar changes in Europe. At the moment the ratios are more like 9:1 in favour of men, this ratio is similar to the ratio of men:women who take University positions in maths intensive areas such as Engineering and Physics. It is also probably similar to the ratio of slashdot subscribers, however, I feel that a few more women may read slashdot due to other topics covered.
