Nope, just tell your local board of elections that you won't be in your precinct that day.

Don't know about the range of the laser but as keeping plans in the air for extended amounts of time, the USAF has extensive experience doing this The limitation now adays is how long the crew can stand being in the plane. Theoretically its possible to keep a 747 in the air for indefinate amount of time. Google Air Force One or B52 for more info.

Actually my guess is that they would like to make their devices location aware. You can do some interesting things once a access point knows where it is and whose its neighbors are.

I believe the military created this technology and Motorola licensed it and is using it in their Canopy product.
(I think, I am not 100% sure though, can't remember where I read that)

You can throw up AP's on the same frequency without worrying about cancelation of the signal.

If you have the $ and want to light up an entire town this is the way to go.
Anyways, it would be interesting to see this incorporated in a WAN.

  5. I actually use MSVDM on Microsoft Seeks Patent On Virtual Desktop Pager · · Score: 3, Interesting

I was browsing around Microsofts site awhile ago, and came accross this application.

It does have some nice features, though I don't think it is nearly as robust as the OSS version.

One of the biggest problems that I have using it is if I have any office application open and switch desktops, I lose all of my buttons/toolbars in the apps.

The other annoying thing is that you can't cycle through the desktops, it lets you cycle through applications on all desktops, but not the actual desktops. Strange and annoying, yet I still use it from time to time.

Anyone else actually use this product? I think it was grouped into the WindowsXP powertoys section.

Here in Ohio we had a backhoe hit one of UUnet's main fiber backbone knocking out service for most of the state for 3 hours.

I think that his thesis should be published and given to all the fine backhoe operators out there who thought that "that cable didn't look it was being used".

  7. Grad School choices on Ask Slashdot: Comp-Sci Graduate Schools · · Score: 1

IMHO I would try MIT, Cal Tech., e.g. all those dream schools. Don't worry about money, because with most grad schools they are looking for good students that will make their school look good. So if you have a clue and can show you have a clue money will come knocking at your door. IMNSHO I say check out The University of Cincinnati, Engineering School, they have a good engineering reputation and the computer department is still young so you get "A LOT" of freedom, and they are the ones that started the co-op program. GO UC!!
Any ways in the end you have to find a school that fits your character, and no matter what don't worry about money[1] because it will only stop you from taking chances, and maybe getting lucky.
