I regularly build and maintain computers for friends for the low price of:
1. A 12 pack of Labatts Blue 2. A 6 pack of Southern Tier (A local microbrew) 3. A Pizza (of my choice source and toppings) 4. If they are really feeling nice, 1 or 2 AND 3.
We were listed as the top or one of the top companies for a few keywords that we specialize in, and recently Google's new shift in indexing has plummeted us to an unknown location for ALL of the keywords we used to get top rankings for.
When 80-90% of our business comes from clients who found us on Google, we're scrambling to figure out how to get that top listing again. It's the difference between our small 5 person company thirving or dying, and that's not just speculation, it's the way of our life.
The question on a lot of small businesses's mind who are in the same predicament is most likely: "What went wrong?"
I'm not directly blaming Google, there were most likely steps that we could have taken, but Google is literally like hacking a black box. Right when you think you may have figured out how things work, it all dances around on the insides and changes the game again.
Have a local machine shop make one for you from aluminum, blueprinted from the plastic part.
Machine shops that specialize in 'blueprinting' do this frequently for engines and other larger components, and can do some pretty precise work. I'm sure if you talked with someone by bringing in the laptop and the plastic part to replace, that they might be able to fabricate something for you.
It may not be the cheapest way, but damn it would look trick!
The simple truth is that when you purchase an electronic device, you own it and have the right to use it as you see fit. Buying a Palm Pilot doesn't mean you have to use it just to keep addresses. For all Palm should care, I could use it as a sand shovel or to wipe my ass.
Passing a bill that restricts our control over the physical hardware or software in the devices we have purchased is wrong. Saying that you may only use a certain type of software with hardware would start to become a common practice (ie: winmodems) that only people in the know would avoid. And at what extent does it end?
Thank you for buying this television. You may not use any other type of remote control device. If the remote that came this this television breaks we will gladly sell you one for $99.
Well, I found myself at the local coffee house with a manilla folder full of work related materials for a few hours, hammering away at database schematics. Although not really sitting at the office, it was still work that needed to be done.
I think the release of the source code has some very strong potential for the game development community. Because it's so hard to learn 3D game programming, especially creating an engine from scratch, even giving the community a 3 year old base to work from is still better than having to hack it yourself
Someone will probably write a script to export from gmax if they haven't yet, giving even more potential to the GPL game development community. Hell, if anything it can't hurt, only make GPL and the basement game hacker community stronger.
Okay, for those who are willing to spend oodles of cash on their case in exchange for a hotrod body: http://www.colorcase.com
I'm not sure if this has been put in the comment list already, but I thought it would be a handy dandy link.

1. Create a partition at the end of the drive that is the size of the paging (swap) file you wish to use.
2. Move the swap file there. (2000/XP - Control Panel>System > [Advanced]> Performance Options > Change Virtual Memory
Remember to set the pagefile on your system/data drives to blank fields (instead of 0), and that every change you make you MUST USE THE SET BUTTON.
Using this I only need to defrag every once in awhile, instead of regularly. I also find windows runs faster, and I don't have to re-install as often.
Cheers!
As covered in a previous story here , why couldn't the FBI do that on MS's home turf?
I'm willing to bet the anti-trust trial would have made more headway.

:: Epoch of EntropyUse them. They carry other stuff too. You'll get used to the bumping of a device on the inside of your kneecap. No worries kid.
