What if it's in their best interests to die?

No one seems to have a problem with putting down lame horses, or - in the American CBS news last night - shooting dogs as they can't feed them.

I don't see human life as particularly special, or unique. Surely there are human situations where it's better to put the person down rather than to let them live. People with 80% burns, no chance of recovery, and only days to live. Many terminal illnesses are so debilitating that death is a wonderful end.

I would rather off myself than suffer a terrible mental illness then die (emphasis on terrible there).

If I'm sane, then let them do what they want with their body (the same goes for drugs, too).

Wanting to kill ones-self can be a rational and logical decision.

RMS can only answer 'Free Software', and RMS clearly stated that in the first response - but Jorrit kept tripping over the terms again and again.

RMS was correct in withholding a response because he wasn't asked the correct question. Jorrit needs to get his terms straight.

RMS was diplomatic and lovely and I'd do him.

    Um, no.

The King of the World likes digital formats, and prefers them. But they're not as good as the original 35mil, if you can get it, which you never can. Really though, I wasn't stating opinion and just fact - you loose a huge amount of detail when going digital. If you were to screen a theatre-sized image the affects of digital vs analog would be clear - digital sucks when it comes to archives.

The King of the World needs to go over there now.

I'm in shock at the schooling kids get today.

Film is analog, it's "format" (har har) is created by actual light rays -> when you convert to digital you lose detail, always.

Now there would be a school of thought that says that as analog deteriorates over time a digital copy is better in the long term. But in no way is digital as good "if it's a high enough bitrate".

    Oh what bullshit.

If Microsoft could kill Linux and OSS they would. They would do anything to disrupt Linux's market/mind share - this is normal - they're a business.

But they're not friends to Linux and OSS, don't forget that - they are devious little bastards with different goals and they'll do anything legal or illegal to get on top.

Linux/OSS may not be directly battling Microsoft - but MS bashes OSS regularly and it's normal to react scornfully.

Now this "bring you out of your silly Linux is god induced haze slapity slap slap" is being thrown about too lightly. Anyone saying that 'open source/free software' is an effective development model gets this kind of response.

Which, however funny, is getting a little old AC.
