I won't speak to others, but my State's government plays almost no direct role in my life. The sales tax is probably the largest notable impact, followed by licensing and vehicle registration. The federal government, however, has way too much influence over my daily life, even if it's just because of the visiblity.
It's really a matter of perception, but it appears as if my State's government has no power over me as the Federal government has stolen it all. That's why I don't really know or care about local politics at all.
Copyright law is supposed to benefit the People, not the producers. When copyright law is once again sane I may consider paying heed. Since that will never happen I will never feel obligated to follow the law, as it is morally repugnant.

Forcing me to find which drive letter was assigned, popping up explorer to browse to my media, figuring out what's new on the comp versus the iPod and moving stuff around is not integrated.

There is no wide-spread murder of Arabs or Moslems in the US. I can't think of even one incident being reported in the last 7 years, though I suppose there was probably one or two. In actuality, non-Jews never formed a nation based on the territory known as Israel. From the time of the Romans until 1948 it had always been ruled by foreigners as a vassel state of some kind.

The lack of corporal punishment has reduced this country to the mess it is in, where murderers are victims and the dead are guilty. What that has to do with democracy, however, completely baffles me.
The DMCA was a voice vote. The very idea of a voice vote assures a lack of accountability, which is exactly what politicians want. Accountability is something which is anathema to most Americans.
