Agent is used to describe someone recruited by an officer. The distinction isn't losely made like you want to make everyone believe. It's very strictly defined. An officer will sneer at you if you call him an agent, because he isn't. The FBI has agents, the CIA has officers.
Now go back to watching your James Bond movies because you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Idiot.
For someone who types with authority about the CIA, you seem not to know much about it. Namely, the CIA does not have "agents", but "officers." They aren't the FBI.
FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, and all the other operating systems based on the BSD license were not made obsolete by Microsoft, even if they do use some BSD code. The introduction of BSD code into Microsoft Windows did not magically make it a superior operating system. Neither would Linux code in Windows.
According to wikipedia, Irish-Americans have the same prevalence of Tay-Sachs as do Jews in America. However, I wouldn't consider Irish-Americans any smarter than the white population in general in America. Furthermore, French Canadians and the Cajun community in Louisiana have the same prevalence as Ashkenazi Jews.
This is a bogus study trying to link the two together.
Where the hell are you getting your information? Fox news? Have you even read up on the structure of the intelligence community? I'll start from the beginning.
First, the NSA *is* a intelligence agency. It's purpose is SIGINT (notice the INT) and protection of domestic information against foreign spying. Read their mission statement if you are too braindead to do any real research.
Second, the CIA does not control sigint, such as spy satellites (where the pictures of supposed Iraqi WMD came from). The NRO does.
I seriously suggest you read about what you try to talk about. Start with 'Intelligence: From Secrets to Policy' by Lowenthal.
It was widely reported right after 9/11 that Bush has lifted the 25 year moratorium on directed assassinations. That is what gave the President the authority to call for bin laden's death.
It's not hard to search the New York Times or Google yourself.
You are completely wrong in your premise. It amazes me how many slashbots state unthruths as fact.
The CIA is not only a collections agency. The NSA is only a collections agency, just like the State Department's INR. The CIA is an all source, multifunction agency tasked with collections, synthesis of information to policy makers, and execution of presidential policy decisions and some counter-intelligence operations (overseas - FBI maintains counter-intelligence in the homeland). They are directly tasked with assassinations (since presidential directive after 9/11) and espionage.
Oh, and the NSA operates under the DoD, just like 80% of the national intelligency budget.
Go back to reading your sci-fi, uninformed slashbot.
You can't tell what's stored on your node very easily.
However, it is relatively easy to see what is on freenet at large. There are several spiders that roam freenet and index freesites they come across. It's sort of like what Google does. So all one has to do is load up these indexes and see how many of the sites are child porn related. Another way to tell is load up Frost and see how many of the boards of child porn related.
For anyone who reads the freenet mailing list daily (me), you'd know the the submitter of this article (Newsbyte) is a known troll who doesn't actually contribute to the project.
I suggest that people who want to know the whole story check out the mailing lists going back a month or so.
They are effectively ruling that Microsoft cannot hold a patent on software they created. Not only does this have ramifications for Microsoft, it has severe ramifications for open source software and open source filesystems. Whether or not you believe in patents, you must realize the severity of this ruling. Under this ruling, no person (including the Free Software Foundation) can hold patents or trademarks on open source software.
Listen folks; This is bad news for us and Microsoft. We need to rally together to fight this ruling. Contact the EFF and donate money NOW. We need everyone we can get.
A loss of a person is truly the worst thing that can happen. My heart goes out to their family.
However, with all of the SUV bashing you see on this site, it should be mentioned that they are the safest vehicles on the road. They save lives in head-on collisions like the one in this story. It is undisputable that if they were driving an SUV, that software developer would be alive today. I know that's a strong statement, but it's the truth. So next time you see someone bashing an SUV for gas mileage, just remember the person who died today. Remember how his family is grieving at the loss of a good human being. Remember the loss to the OSS community. The only way to avoid accidents like this is to drive safe vehicles; SUVs are the only safe way to drive.
Again, my heart goes out to the family. I am truly sorry for the loss.
It looks like one of those "IT" degrees. There are no hardware courses like Computer Arch. There is no Discrete Math course or Calc II course. There are no science sequence courses or anything like that. It is merely software development with no training in algorithms or hardware. It's basically a glorified cert with a Philosophy and English course thrown in. You can substitute the time needed to spend on a degree with more busy work.
You can get a degree like this at ITT or any number of community colleges.
I'm sure gmail stacks up really well (if not beating all of) against the competition.
But a more important question: How well does the intrusiveness of gmail stack up against other providers? With Google reading each email that passes through their servers, it's a question that needs to be answered. Has a review been written about this?
I have been thinking about doing something similar

That's not the point. This point is that Indian workers have the option of coming here and working. By law, it is illegal for Americans to get work visas related to IT in India.
So, here we are in the year 2004. America doesn't have enough IT jobs to support our own programmers. India's IT sector is booming. But guess what? American's are NOT allowed to travel to India to get a job.
This is not free trade. It's the raping of our nation.
That's one thing this is NOT about: free trade. Free trade is when an unemployed American computer scientist can go to India to get a job. Guess what? It's impossible for Americans to get work visas in India. Why? Because they are protectionist.
People need to realize that the exodus of jobs is a one-way ticket. Indians can come over here and work as programmers, but Americans can't go to India. This is really a story of the American worker getting shafted by the illusion of "free trade." So let's stop the propaganda and say what it really is.
From the article: "Brahmos which outspeeds famous US Tomahawk by three times, and by ground tests of scramjets."
The Tomahawk cruise missile was intentionally made subsonic. The sound from a supersonic cruise missile with a range in exceess of 800 miles would negate much of the stealth aspect of the missile.
If you want to compare it to a US missile, compare it to some of our anti-ship or anti-air missiles.
I understand that Linux is the new darling of the tech industry, but why do reviews like this completely ignore operating systems likee FreeBSD (which out performs Linux in several serving tasks, and is in general more mature)? People who write these reviews on TCO and other stats think Linux is the only alternative to Windows servers. It gets annoying after a while.

You've been watching too many movies.
That's a ridiculous argument.

Your entire argument is a straw man.

SBC is *not* Bellsouth. They are two completely different companies. SBC Communitcations Inc. != Bellsouth Corp.
As lawyer, this is ridiculous.

Try going to India and getting a job. Several Americans have, and have been turned away.
