Quite frankly, I hope Linux never gets on the desktop. Instead of creating a Free implementation of the OpenStep specification, a proven system, people go off and create things like GNOME and KDE. Yes, I'm fully aware of GNUstep, but that should've been done *before* GNOME and KDE.
They didn't trademark the word "KIllustrator", they trademarked "Illustrator". Those are two different words. They are not the same word.
I would side with Adobe if KDE had, instead of choosing "KIllustrator", chosen something more aloong the lines of... oh I don't know... "Illustrator"!
People keep comparing western ideas to eastern ideas, old religions to new religions, and etcetera. This isn't about any of that. This is simply banning access to information to maintain power. No corruptive power can maintain its position while allowing a free flowing exchange of ideas. It cannot happen. Not here, not there, not anywhere.

Hrm, I only see the word "Apple". It doesn't say which Unix based Apple OS they are refering to.
Remember, Apple has made more than one "Unix". Namely, but not limited to: Mac OSX Server (Rhapsody), Darwin OS, Mac OS X, mkLinux and A/UX
I can build a computer that will last as long as any pre-made one. And I have total control over what parts go in, that means I can run any OS I want.
This dosen't make any sense! I can but a Alpha ATX motherboard and run Digital Unix or Linux or NT or BSD or... I can buy a UltraSPARC motherboard ATX and run Solaris or Linux or...
Get the picture. But, oddly, I can't do that with Apple. And this isn't about money because Apple can make just as much money as they do now.
(Har, har). Seriously,
it's about control. I will not be a victum of vendor lock!
Unix is 'in'. Remember Apple's first attempt at Unix, A/UX? Even if you are a machead, probably not. Because Unix wasn't 'in'. Let's not kid ourselves, there's not much difference between OSX or Linux or BSD or Solaris.
It's all marketing. Anyone can learn to use Unix, unless maybe someone says "This is really hard". Anyway, this article is on a website called 'Mac Addict'.

Well, I never said Mhz=performance. All I am saying is that this is in no way a serious entry by sun into the pc arena, and I gather that its not supposed to be. If they really wanted to make a splash, they would be anouncing low cost ATX motherboards.
I bet this machine probably performs as good as, if not better than an AMD based system.
I wouldn't bet on that, I have used ultra and pc's. The latest pc's would out perform that handily.
The only thing thats faster that the latest pc's are the Sun blades.
Nice try, Sun. Unless you develop on the Solaris platform there is no reason to get one of these.
You can build a 1Ghz Athlon box for about $600.
These copanies really aren't looking to make their platform more popular, they're just looking to make more monry form a design and hardware they already have lying around. Which is understandable. What is not understandable is why I don't see and Sparc based or PowerPC based ATX motherboards.
Well, at least for the important stuff anyway. Open source NVIDIA drivers don't exsist for a good reason. It's not because they are greedy bastards and its not because the open drivers will reveal patent infringement (as i once thought..), its because some technology is licenced from other companies/people/whatever and they are bound to not reveal stuff by contract. They just don't have a choice.
Raskin is smart. And MacOS is nice. But when it comes to GUI's, I think people overlook BeOS and NeXTSTEP and are too quick to shout MacOS. NeXTSTEP had the closest thing to what Raskin is talking about. It was Clean, simple, uniform, and your favorite apps were never more that a click away. But, the best designs aren't always the most popular. Oh well, thank god for the FSF, Linux, GNUStep and the GTKStep theme for GTK+!

Linux is mentioned in paragraph's 2, 4, 11, 12, 13, 14 an 16.

I'm guessing no. But to answer your question: yes.

Get wget for windows here. And there is a Pico clone called Nano which runs on Windows and is almost identical.

Mac OS X is Darwin. Darwin is not UNIX, it's Darwin. But then, who cares? I mean, what's in a name?
--
I'm pretty sure you can do all those things in NT.

Where can I buy one? I do belive you, I just want one. :)

Find a PowerPC ATX motherboard that will run MacOS...
All those parts you just mentioned are useless without it.

Check out Agenda Computing's new pda, the Agenda VR3.
It has a 66Mhz MIPS chip and it runs on Linux VR.

NVIDIA: NVIDIA is the world leader in graphics solutions.

I don't know if you need NVidia hardware, but reaster is a big fan of Geforce.
