    Oh, I know you'd love to establish a slave society where you could ride above it all, commanding obedience from those less politically evolved than you. I'm afraid, however, that you live in a world where pretty much everyone in the US is fat, dumb, happy, and wonderously well over-fed, and likes it that way.

    There are a number of lesons to take from this.

    1. Don't get between an American and the American's food bowl.

    2. Don't disturb the American's food bowl.

    3. Don't bother the American, CSI is playing.

    Do any or all of these long enough, and we will nuke you.

    I mean, we're all about the pursuit of happiness.

    Leave us alone, and the 5% of us that are intellectuals will dazzle you and the world.

    China is what it is because of grim leftists like you. America is what it is because of happy epicureans like Belushi.

    Well, as I lie here on my bed, TV in front of me (a Hannibel Lecter movie of one sort or another running - pigs are involved), laptop slightly closer and also in front of me, NETGEAR WG511 doing its thing, I sorta feel your worry.

    Though, being married, my balls aren't something I have to worry about any more. They're in a jar somewhere around here. Sigh.

    I was making a smartass remark. Really.

    I'll bet there's a Mil Std somewhere that requires the equipment to be resistant to everything from sea-salt to EMP. This adds cost. Probably for no actual good. However, as one of my commanders once told me "regulations are writen in blood."

    $1400 may sound expensive, but what price on a life?

    In my Atlanta neighborhood, we've got a new Wal Mart where Chamblee-Tucker T's at Peachtree Industrial. It's a true one-stop for just about anything you could want, from food to building supplies. I sometimes go just to walk the aisles, see all teh stuff, and marvel at the prices.
