  1. Re: But dont forget on Titanium As Cheap As Aluminum? · · Score: 1

Im not saying it will be expensive im just saying itll be more expensive than Al becuase there is less of it. Not that it is rare... TiO2 is the base for all paints... when you want to paint your bedroom pink, the paint store guy gives you a funny look, then puts some pink tint in a can of white paint. Just because your sister costs more than your mother, doesnt mean she is expensive.

I didnt say i wouldnt be cheaper that it is today, im just saying less Ti than Al so cost of Ti greater than Al. Supply and demand.

Aluminium is makes up around 8 percent of the earths surface, and titanium is a fraction of 1%. I doubt titanium will ever be as cheap as aluminium

Do microsoft consider DOS to be part of their windows plan anymore? Isnt it all super-user-friendly GUIs now? As long as it can still run your DOS binaries, i dont think MS think it matters there isnt a traditional CLI.

I doubt the NZ government is really aiming for a NSA-esque supercomputer to scan all emails (as we all know they do). Extending the concept of phone-tapping to emails is not so terrible. 'thin edge of the wedge' and 'splippery slope'? i doubt it. But if i lived there id get some spanky new crypto happening. Hell, everyone should use it, not because of the police, who we know are there, but for others we dont know of.

  13. Set your phasers to 'hype' on Force Fields And Plasma Shields Get Closer · · Score: 1

'Star Trek'-esque shields and clocking devices? Come on people - think about it. The plasma might hide the satellite, but it does nothing for the big box keeping the plama in. Im pretty sure the Baddies will be at least be able to spot these big ass glowing boxes. Anyways - being able to keep a substance above its critical point at low temperatures means really really high pressures, and your average satellite isnt designed to withstand pressures youd find at the bottom of the ocean. Putting something into orbit costs its weight in gold - so 8 inch metal isnt the solution.

  14. Testing this theory? on Can Bacteria Survive Space Vacuum, UV? · · Score: 1

I doubt that those petri dishes simulate anywhere near the sort of environment you would find on your average metorite. The bacteria dont need to survive in space to travel between planets, they need to survive in a chunk of rock, and assuming the chunk of rock is big enough to have any left over after entering an atmosphere and burning up, i think it would be large enough to protect the bacteria from the majority of harmful radiation out there. Not that this means that bateria have ever migrated between planets on the back of a rock. That would be silly.
