Why does every application have to reinvent the wheel? That's whay Miguel is saying -- why isn't there a SINGLE configuration file where I can define that I want "cut" to be ctrl-C and paste to be "ctrl-V"? It doesn't sacrifice ANY POWER WHATSOEVER, but it will go a long way to making every system easier to use. But we're all so afraid to actually make a real decision and have to hide behind the euphemism that "we're letting the user decide".
Because you *can't*. Period. End of story. Next question. On UNIX, programmers can do anything they want. They can write anything and anyhow they want, and there is nothing anybody can do about it.
I imagine, in theory, it would be possible to submit the images in an HTML tree seperately, and <img> them all in one page, making collections of images possible.
As for videos, yeah, you have a point. But that doesn't make the system useless by a long shot.
1) Did you use it? It's not an application, you use it through your web browser (by setting an HTTP proxy). It's clearly oriented towards text.
2) Saying something will win if it has fewer rules is silly. Freenet hosters can invoke both criminal and civil liabilty for what's stored on thier servers. By reducing how easy it is to do that, you reduce the chance of liability. See the recent discussion on programmer liabilty - it's nice to think that you can be immune from what people do with software you create, but that isn't always the case (not that that's good).
3) Regardless, this is going to be attacked violently once the posters from alt.scientology discover it =)
It wasn't clueless, it was a standard trademark 'infringment' (or whatever it's called when someone steps on your trademark) suit. Two pieces of networking software with the same name, one who has the trademark registered to them. You're just being treated to some of/.'s off-the-cuff bias.

do you have any idea how many managers there are that couldn't think without thier palm next to them? it's like a cranial extension for some people. scary.
BTW, when he said 'change your DNS Server', I can only assume he meant to change the nameserver in/etc/resolf.conf
And I can certainly see needing to change a mount to a remote NFS server would be something a newbie would need to do on thier workstation (analogous to mounting a remote share in Windows).
Check this out, if you're planning on getting a PS2.
A new Gradius (part IV) came out last year in arcades in Japan. Of course, since it isn't a fighting game, driving game, and doesn't use a plastic gun, the chances of seeing it in arcades this side of the pacific are nil, but there is hope =)
Where did you get your japanese copy of Gradius 3? Online? Also, I wonder if Salamander 2 for PS/2 is still available.... mmmm.... shooters......
That's good to know =) If I am not mistaken, ATI's 2d engine hasn't changed since the Mach64 (i.e. all thier innovation recently has been in the 3d arena), so any modern ATI card will work for that. I hope.
I was actually planning on going with OpenDOS, as the machine will be a dual-boot DOS/Linux box (The Linux being there for when I need a dedicated Quake/HL/UT server =), and I figured installing Windows would be a pain if I didn't need to.
What is the AMAME optimized compile? I'm running the mameppro binary right now (from mame.net) on a Celery 450.
I'm curious if anyone has built a dedicated emulator machine, and if so what CPU/Video Card combination is ideal.
I'm curious, as running some games, such as Gradius 3 (which I have a masochistic love of), are *really* slow in parts. Like 10 FPS or so. (Average FPS when running Gradius 3 is about 17, as opposed to the 60 FPS or so in 1943).
I'm in the process of testing my skillz by building an arcade joystick. (Thanks be to http://www.arcadecontrols.speedh ost.com/ and Happ Controls for information and parts respectively). If this is successful, I would like to find and strip down an old console. But I'm not going to do it if all the games I want to play run like shit =)
More to the points, are there any tips/advice for speeding up MAME and/or other emulators? Specific video settings, etc?
True, but the SAMBA in question is a transaction or log on system for banks. i.e. networking software. I have a feeling that those two areas (filesharing network software & transaction-based network software) are probably too close to use that defense.
I think the point was raised that this would be a horrid mistake, as something like 3-4 companies run the majority of all the porn sites on the net. The namespace would be bought up so quickly that it would be useless after a few months, except to see the pages of a select few companies (i.e. those with money).
Note. In SGML, it is possible to eliminate the final ";" after a character reference
in some cases (e.g., at a line break or immediately before a tag). In other circumstances it may not be eliminated (e.g., in the middle of a word).
Because the image is sent down by a CGI script (presumably perl), which would be less efficient the bigger the image got (relative to the webserver sucking it off the drive).

You're acting like current application-level C++ code on Windows can easily ported to Linux.

No, he gave it a 2. It hasn't been moderated yet.
Don't worry. It will be. It will be....

I second that. This is way better, has searching, and years worth of archives.

Both SAMBAs are software that allows interoperation over a network.
This is not RDBMS vs. Pizza.

Pac-Man is a finite game, though. There's a theoretical limit on how many points you are able to score in it, and 3,333,360 is up there near it.

Actually, I don't think you'll see any more Metroid games, as Gunpei Yokoi, whose team created Metroid & Super Metroid passed away in 1997.
