    Hey, you know if they would just let us know this information up front (1000 song limit) we can build it into the sharing service! By checking the available sorces every once in a while, identical hashes can be "distributed" so that you are never seen as offereing more than 999 of you files at any given time. It's all still there, just more efficient. That's what the internet is all about, right?

    Oh, btw, thanks for eveyone who is sharing tracks from the Peter Paul and Mommy CD on eMule. We acidentally packed the CD somewhere "safe" during our move and now I can't find it. My daughter can now get her "fix" (and us our automotive-ride peace) without having to tear through every stinking box in our new garage.

    If you've got a big in-house project with 12 weeks of work remaning and 9 weeks of calendar time, who do you think is goint to approve applying a patch (SP2) taht could cause conflicts with your design environment?

    Oh, your friend should know better. I've learned that this is the time when you put on your best dumb-blond smile, walk into the store where you bought it, and say, "I don't know, it just stopped working." I've yet to get much resistance when pleading ignorance on a CE item. OTOH, trying to suggest the type of failure that mimght have occured is almost always greeted with suspicion, and often ends in an argument about how (whatever it is that went wrong) is the consumer's fault and is not covered under warranty.

    I'm curious...is trademark violation a civil or criminal offense? (No, I really don't know, though my guess is civil)

    If it's a civil offense, what are federal law enforcement doing in the picture? This should be handled through the civil courts with no need for government intervention (unless the court order is ignored, which doesn't appear to tbe the case here).

    Finally, what is the purpose of raiding a retail establishment which is not financially connected to the manufacturer? Shouldn't the enforecement action, if any, be brought directly to the manufacturer, which is the infringing party, with the manufacturer requiring recalls of the infringing toy?

    I hate to say it, but this smells a bit. Rival toy store owner? Former angry business partner turned whistle-blower? There is precious little detail in the article.

    Your VCR is buying bread vs baking it yourself. TiVo is more like having a local bread-monger who delivers to your house on a regular basis. You know, they guy who knows you on a first name basis and knows how you like your bread cooked, so he brings a few extra samples that are similar to the other breads you like, but that you wouldn't have known to order if he hadn't suggested them.

    Sure it costs more (and $13/mo is a bit steep, imho, but $5 for DTV is a steal), but you get more in return.

    While a six year old is not required to be in a safety or booster seat, anyone under the age of 16 (in Virginia) MUST be restrained by a seat belt at all times and in all locations within a moving automobile.

    On the contrary, it perfectly appropriate. Companies like FedEx, UPS, and the USPS, as well as consumer firms like Bath and Body Works routinely "throw away" customers because they don't support alternate browsers. (Actually, I think BBW has updated their site to support mozilla, as long as you sell your soul to Flash) They don't care...10% is still just in the noise. Besides, if you know enough to get Mozilla, they figure you can fire up IE if you really want to see what they've got.

    If I want to use the USP online shipping applet, I'd better switch to IE. And I do, because I need to use it. If I want to use AutoCAD, I have to run it on a Windows platform, and I do. The point is that if you have a big enough market share, you get to dictate the terms and if you think you can get away with IE only, then you're sure-as-hell not going to spend the money on some minor-player platform.

    By the way, I use Opera, and I swith to IE for the non-compliant stuff.

    I happen to have used both. PRO/E is a good package, but woefully inadequate at drafting. You can make a product without a 3d model, but you can't do it without drafting.

    (BTW - I've done Aerospace/Mechanical, Aerospace & Consumer/Electrical, and Aerospace, Consumer, and Architectual/Strucutral design)

    I agree with you that the SCOTUS will tend to be a bit more moderate (thank goodness), but I'd still be a bit concerned with a 6-3 panel.

    Hate speech is that which is intended to incite a group of people to harm an ethnic, racial, or religious group (generally a minority, though not always). Calling the president names is hardly hate speech.

    It may not be nice, but neither is someone who never served in the active military claiming a veteran didn't deserve his combat medals.

    He hears dissenting views from some of his advisors on a regular basis, he just doesn't listen. Those advisors are generally asked to resign or are transferred to another post if they keep it up though.

    The key point is that it doesn't matter what people say, his path is that of Christian Rightiousness and if he ever has a doubt he merely needs to ask God for guidance. No messing around with memos and reports. Once he knows his path, he can have the reports of those who agree with him combined into a strategic plan.

    Sort of like Bill Cosby and the Angel (*Prang* You are well, go out and play!) who told him he was well after being too sick to go to school. He knew his mom had to belive the angel. If your a good Christian, you'll belive in GWB, because he takes his orders from the same god that you do.

    The troops are genearlly going to vote for a Republican anyway, because Republicans generally favor larger military spending and are more reluctant to commit troops to foreign lands for pansy-ass reasons like promoting democracy and human rights.

    I currently have 768/128 (really 620/80) for $45/mo. I'm moving into Verizon/Adelphis Territory, and my options are:

    768/256 for $29.95/mo (Verizon)
    1536/256 for $49.95/mo (Verizon)
    3000/300 for $54.95/mo (Adelphia)

    Now, this is supposedly in a town that was going to have 10bT lines in every home ten years ago, and pipms itself as an "electronic village". Yes, I'm taking Blacksburg, VA, home of the Hokies and a 12.25TF computer.

    I just got the Adelphia hooked up at my house (29.95 for 6 months intro) and it's an awful lot like digital heroine. I'm not really sure I'm going to be able to take a 4:1 throttle back when my 6 month trial is up. I tell you, they're just like drug dealers.

    Really? Any nominee to the high court by President Bush will be Pro-Life. It is his (the Presidents) personal belief that abortion is wrong, and should be illegal, and he gets this belif from his religion (God) and is therefor unassailable.

    If just two high court justices are appointed in the next four years by President Bush, you can be certian that a case will come up which will fully or partially overturn Roe v. Wade. If you're curious, take a look at Stenberg v. Carhart
    530 U.S. 914 in June 2000 (decision) which was 5-4.

    Rehnquist, Stevens and O'Connor have been swaying in the breeze for several years now (The former is is 80, the two latter have had battles with cancer in the recent past). Thats one Pro-Life and two Pro-Choice (I use those terms loosely) decision makers.

    If you think it won't make a difference...well, just ask youself how bad could Kerry screw things up with both the house and senate in Republican hands?

    This election isn't about the war in Iraq, its about the future of privacy and individuals rights. But Americans can't ssem to think more than one quater ahead, so there's no use trying to get them to look at the big picture.

    This is why I fear the re-election of GWBush. I fully expect two to three supreme court replacements in the next four years. I think I could probably deal with the repubs in the house and senate (though I'd prefer it split), and four more years of a stupid Texan in the WH would keep the jokes rolling, but to end up with all three branches leaning the same direction (either direction, btw) is just freakin' scary.

    Damn. What country have you been living in for the last 200 years?

    Unless, by "people" you mean white male landowners, which was the colloquial definition of an equal man when the constitution was written. Now it's simple male corporate executive, but its basically the same thing in our modern context. (By the way, I'm white, male, and a own a small company. I also don't agree with the previous statment, but have found it to be disturbingly true in many - but not all - areas.)

    You do know that $5.2m was for a trailer-full of unconnected parts, right? Just like the $100,000 satellites that universities "build," this one would cost far more in the real world. A Habitat for Humanity house may cost only $20,000, but I can guarantee you won't find the same new house for sale for that kind of money on the open market (try 80-100k for a 20k equivalent HH house).

    There may not be all that many IE-only sites, but I use opera, and there are a hell of a lot of "not-Opera" sites out there in the corporate world (start with FedEx, the USPS, and UPS, for three fine examples)

    The only problem is that its the O2 that is hard to carry compared to a liquid-at-local-stp hydrocarbon. If gaseous products were so simple to contain, we'd just fill up with H2 here on the third planet.

    Yeah, 'cause calling the ESA "the little guys" will make them feel so much better! Actually, there are few large missions which are exclusively one-country now. Experts and money are worldwide, it's worth tapping both.
