It's 6700$ for the components and 1700$ for the batteries... Even when you have to change the batteries every year, it's still WAY cheaper than you think... I'm still rather convinced that the electric car is being held back.
they are going to make a car that millions of people want. I want to bet millions of people want something VW golf-sized with batteries, and i bet they can make it for under $30000. I don't see something like that, only expensive vehicles or unusable vehicles.
Then YOU explain ME WHY there's still NO electric car available in stores? I'll buy one immediatly. I wanna buy an EV1 ! Don't say there isnt a market for it... Some makes live on less than 5000 cars a year.
I have multiple times already heard of inventions been invented twice or more independently. Does this mean that new technology gets to be invented anyway ? And that it probably depends on the rest of the state of technology and science ? And while i am at it... if I continue to reason, this means that any invention shouldn't be patentable, because society/history has a hand in it, because the inventor couldn't invent the new tech without being raised, fed, clothed, sheltered and educated by society ? Is this what Newton meant partially by "If I have seen further it is by standing on ye shoulders of Giants"?
And when corp B has an interest in selling its more expensive, more lucrative invention that predates this invention ? Or what if ALL relevant companies have an interest to use the older technology - like say the oil and car companies have in petrol ?
I agree partly, i give you that extracting the raw materials can be very harmful, but the energy required shouldn't be harmful. Still, we've thrown so much material away now, should we still be short on materials ? I think much money is to be made by 'harvesting' landfills.
This type off comment makes me pissed off ! You are NOT payed enough to be considered a SLAVE. If you are doing your job fine, then the company shouldn't be able to consider you a criminal.
yes, but gasoline tends to prevent you being really independent. Put up some solar cells, a wind-turbine or whatever, use some batteries for your electric car... and nobody takes your ability to drive away !
The metals used in the construction of these types of capacitors have their own kind of impact on the environment just like any manufactured product. RECYCLE !! Jeezes...
It's all about BALANCE. the mean temperature on earth is regulated by how much "input" and how much "output" energy we have. "Input"=solar energy. "output"=thermal radiation from the earth and is a function of(amongst others) the surface temperature and how good that energy is being kept in. If you raise this 'insulation' by raising the amount of CO2, then you'll end up with a higher average temperature, because you need a higher surface temp too offset the input.
history is repeating here... hundreds of scientists working on the IPCC report fighting the oil-companies + public laziness and ignorance sounds a lot like galileo's work against the pope.
you hadn't actually understood I don't claim to understand global warming to its smallest details, but i know this : the scientific world is more and more turning to the conclusion that humanity is destroying our only world, See the IPCC report for pointers to the science. I trust the scientists more than TV-makers. And IF there's a "swindle": look where the money is. (how much money do you give too the oil-companies each year ? do this times a billion) a green economy could mean we are less dependent on the largest corporations.
there is no such thing as "the corporations" as a singular entity. There are tens of thousands of corporations, each with their own conflicting agendas and interests. These separate entities are united in that a very large % of their stock is from a very low % richest piece of the population. Ever heard of the caste-system? It's being/has been introduced in the US. I am in no way interested in big corporations, but i am interested in good government able to stand up to the corporations. In the US that is no longer possible. I hope the EU will hold out a few decades longer.
Sorry, but YOU ARE implying in your statements, albeit implicitly, that humans don't cause rising CO2 levels. And who are you gonna believe : the scientific world, which HAS TURNED AROUND on their opinion on global warming, or some conspiracy-theorists ?
indicating that rises in CO2 are caused by raised temperatures, not the other way around.
The argument is not that people don't contribute to the CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Huh WHAT ??
So... ONE BILLION PEOPLE driving cars and flying planes don't have an effect on CO2 levels ? Ok, you come back with "it's only a few percent of total emissions, if you also count volcanoes, emissions of animals and plants" I'll tell you this : The emissions of volcanoes, plants and animals have been taken care of by a billion year of evolution to balance emission/absorption of CO2. Now we're here and we screw the balance. What happens if you spend yearly 1% more than you earn ? In the long term ? Do the maths over 50 years for an income of 10000.

the people interested in an electric car don't want a sports car.
thanx ... but the 92000$ is over my budget, and i want a family car, not a roadster.

or a pile of nuclear material.

well ... the web started out for free ...

I guess It won't be slow neither ... electric cars don't need to shift gears.
There's a reason the TGV is electric
The US has a monkey president ..[/obligatory]
Apparently you are under the impression that your government is independent from the corporations ?
