The big take away for me is, there's no debate at all about whether a pig has consciousness and self awareness. It hasn't always been that way.

The fact that apple can make products people will pay a premium for is an indication of their desirability.

That claim would make sense if there was something noticeably desirable about Apple, but they have actually fallen into the middle of the pack or worse in terms of functionality, looks, and ease of use. Even as a status symbol they seem to carry more stigma than status now. Something your mom has, or that aging millennial with the maxed out credit card.

Good call. Miners want the newest, most power-efficient cards, hence we can look forward to a continuing shortage of Vega 64s and a glut of used 460/480s. But it hasn't really happened yet from what I can see, your $140 for a used 560 is ok, but hardly a legendary deal. Maybe stick in that 2400G while waiting for the situation to change, and when it does, swap it out into a homework station for your sister while treating yourself to an 8 core Ryzen 2 and a decent 3 year old GPU for cheap.

  16. norway is the heaviest taxed nation in the world, overall. their personal tax floats around 40%. then they have a 25% vat, high property taxes, high cost of living. it's a great place! to be poor in.

Norway is awash in oil money and has one of the highest gdp per capita in the world. Yes, taxes are high, but Norwegians are also highly paid with many social benefits. It's nice to know that if you somehow lose your ability to work that you are not going to starve. A pretty happy place from what I know of it.

  17. Huh? They're mostly doing great! Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Canada,
Sweden, Norway... These are the non-shithole countries.

Those countries are not socialist countries...

They are socialist in the same sense that Bernie Sanders is socialist. You appear to conflate "socialist" with totalitarian/fascist, when convenient for your argument. If you are not clear on the root concept, educate yourself here.

  18. For this though, they are just shooting themselves in the foot. The suit will go nowhere...

You don't know that. A federal judge will rule on whether this suit can go forward. Given that the facts it relies on are a matter of public record and the injury is real, it is highly probable that it will go forward. Even if it only proceeds as far as discovery it will be a disaster for the Trump axis. It is a civil suit for one thing, and therefore beyond the reach of Trump's pardon power. An analogous suit the DNS brought against the Nixon reelection committee (aptly, CREEP) was successful.

  19. Don't forget the jerrymandering, the Murdoch propaganda machine, the Mercers, the evangelist nutcases, the NRA, Weiner's wiener... all these factors and more had to align to elect Trump. If but one were taken out of the equation then no dark age of Trump. But I agree, the single stupidest, most preventable factor was failing to nominate the most electable candidate. Dems deserve to be punished for that stupidity, but the country does not deserve to be destroyed.
