Why do you expect everybody to upgrade right now? IMHO /. would lose in credibility if it tried to delay this information. Finally, it's RedHat's problem, not SlashDot's.

Talking about this non-existing GPL-religion is speading FUD. For me, GPL is just a means to protect my work from being used to restrict somebody's freedom. Don't fear Linux bigots - they only exist in you mind.

What about copyrights, I don't want to have my freedom restricted because somebody else abuses it. I especially hate when technical means are used for that. How can you explain to a port filter that you want music by Bach, who lived centures ago? The filter will not let you through - it is to dumb to understand.

Hello, Jamie! I do use Lynx. You won't believe me but it's true - I often go to personals sites in Lynx, select women with photos only and then read their ads. If I find an interesting ad I either download the picture of start Netscape. But sometimes I want to see, say, screenshots of Heretic on Palm. Downloading pictures individually is too much trouble - I want to enjoy them, and complicated downloading process spoils everything. Then I have to use something like Netscape/Mozilla/Konqueror. I know, there are Chimera and Arena, but they are so ugly :-(

  13. What it is really about. on Various *nix OSes Open To Format String Attacks · · Score: 2
You can specify the locale using environment variables. You can even set them remotely using telnet protocol. Some environment variables can specify the file with translated strings. Translated strings may contain different formatting characters. This is really bad for SUID programs that run as root. Libc must ignore those environment variables for SUID programs but it fails to do so on many OS'es. That, and only that constructs the vulnerability.

This is not a problem with C, this is a problem with the OS.
