dont give all those canberries all the credit, cause it isnt just them setting it up. Adelaide, Melbourne and the entire state of tasmania (the one at the bottom, that always gets left off the maps are also setting up similar things. Finally, we australians have had an idea before the americans! too bad about the FCC... HAHAHAHA
go to http://www.adelaide.air.net.au for news on our exploits or http://www.tas.air.net for tasmanian info. Melbourne doesnt have a site yet.
Reading through the comments, i cant believe people can joke about this! I guess after a while you become immune to hollywood, mpaa, riaa, layers and other lower forms of life, but even so, it still amazes me.
If any of you have ever read Red Dwarf, you may remember how coke paid to have approximately 4000 stars sent supernova, just to spell out "Coke gives life". I laughed then, but now i'm wondering just how long it's going to be. Truth really is stranger than fiction, and the two are merging.
YES, finally, someone who makes sense! That last comment on it's own is the answer to the whole censorship debate. The government does not decide what children can see, the parents do! Technology is the same as anything else. Sure, you can stab someone with a kitchen knife, but no-one goes around saying we should ban all knives and eat with spoons, simply because that is so obviously not practical.
The only reason anyone tries to censor the net is because they do not understand it. I live in Australia, and a while ago now the government actually passed a bill forcing isp's to censor the net and banning some sites. They are now a laughing stock. No isp has done anything about it, and as the system for taking down sites is purely complaint based, nexr to no sites get taken down. Even when they do, they simply move their servers off-shore and laugh.
The Australian government simply did not understand the internet and acted unwisely because of this. I can think of another case as well, the napster case: If napster is closed down then everyone uses Gnutella. Where's the victory in that? (Incidentially, Lars Ulrich of Metallica, one of the more vocal opponents, has admittesed he has only used the net "once or twice" to check sport scores. He has also never seen or used napster.
Ignorance conquers all
It will take heavy machinery to get people away from their keyboards, simply because it is what they are used to. 2050 maybe, but we must always remember we are dealing with ordinary people here, and i doubt they will change by 2010
Unfortunately, i cant think of some sad joke to make about this, as everyone else has already thought of them. Can you just moderate up this post anyway?
Excellent point. Although the microsoft development team is slow, they have a lot of money, a lot of resources and one main advantage - they're making it up as they go along and writing original code. While OpenWindows would be good, i really dont think it can keep moving fast enough while copying code accurately enough
If they can get the support and people working on it then this may turn out quite interesting. After all, Linux was written as a unix clone/expansion/whatever, so i cant really see why there isnt at least the possiblity that they will succed. I sense that there may be trademark trouble though. If it works, then thats great, but i wouldnt open the champagne yet. Good luck!
Now i can download any game i want and put it on a cart. Nintendo has finally lost an advantage (at least, from their point of view) over playstation. Previously only PS ganmes were this copyable, but now nintendo's situation is even worse. Does anyone know how much Sony lose to piracy? (Not that it stops me)

right then... Just one more piece of proof that there is no intelligent life on Earth
I didnt know there were comets with active volcanoes. Correct me if im wrong, but i thought they were all dead? maybe im thinking of asteroids - im certainly no astronomer.
Finally, someone has realized what makes games so good - a combination of randomly designed levels and multiple ways of solving the same puzzle. This is partly why Diablo is so popular, with it's randomly drawn levels confounding walkthroughs and adding replay tenfold. The more games that incorporate this kind of realism the more games i'll be buying.
Excellent point. Zelda really is unique, and IMHO it is nintendo's influence that makes it one of a kind. I just hope majorka's mask can keep up with the reputation. By the way, i never did work out that you had to use an arrow, and simply flamed it straight away. This is what makes an immersive and realistic game, more than one way of solving puzzles.
Ever read the Red Dwarf novels? One talks about Coke sending hundreds of stars super-nova in the shape of their logo for advertising. When i read it, i laughed, but now im not so sure...
I dont know about there not being a critical mass yet. IMHO they turned enough against them simply when they sued napster. However, a "critical mass" is an undefined definition and therefore pointless. You say there is a critical mass, i say there isn't and the AC's can flame war over it. Or not.
So napster goes down. So what? At best, they can shut down the servers. So people will simply use the OpenNap network. Even if that goes down, people are flocking to alternatives such as Gnutella, which can't even be shut down by the developers. Free music distribution is here. The RIAA either has to work with it or be destroyed by it. And the RIAA has already set it's path by attempting to shut down napster. I sense an echo of the Hackers Manifesto... -Tell a man that there are 400 billion stars and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint and he has to touch it.
If it is, i give it 2 months before microsoft acquires, and then we're in trouble.

I think he would be having second thoughts now.

whoever is moderating here needs help. Funny, why do i have a suspicion this post is going to get -9?

yep. any kind of free music isnt safe. I'd be watching your radio VERY carefully.
