I think you meant: But incompetent corporations are?
Also, not sure about off-shore but in the states the government is not involved in the banks which are private entities for the most part, no idea about SA, but it doesn't seem so? lol
Yes it would, it would send it further underground, making it harder for the common folk to get at it. The paranoia generated by the lawsuits is evidence of this. What everybody's complaining about is that it...
1. allows the USA to police websites in a shoot first ask later kind of manner, as well as the audacity to say the US can police foreign websites.
2. Moves the responsibility of prosecution from the RIAA/MPAA to the DOJ aka tax payer dollars and from civil to criminal.
3. Makes the web admin responsible for user generated content, so if i post a link to tpb, slashdot can get taken down by the doj. This poses a problem morally and legally if my link is to a linux distro as opposed to pirated material.
thnx Zutterfag, ALL THE SOCCER MOMS that vote dumbass senators like the ones trying to pass sopa ONLY have a fb account, but they don't get to feel the pain, instead its the intellectuals who use wikipedia.
Coding has been around for about half a century now, and this is a first on a hs level I think... but... what about doctors, scientists, and other higher education professions, why no hs for them? Coding requires a certain thinking ability, everybody has it, but it seems to be developed at different levels. I dunno why they singled it out though, what about the hs experience? Coders tend to not make very good football players, women? sparse and unfortunate to the stereotype, mostly undesirable. Hs is as much about personal growth and development as it is about learning something useful. I get the desire to produce highly talented coders and to get kids started early on them, but this may be a bit much. I'd rather see cisco and java/.net offered as part of the existing hs curriculum in a consistent manner, than dedicated schools that are devoted to the trade.
Also... say the school is unable to replicate the hs experience? We'd be pushing kids out into college / work force w/o proper social skills. Virginia Tech anyone?
A large amount of exploits, viruses, malware, spyware that is then later analyzed by American "security experts", who marvel at the ingenuity. Coding tends to be better on an empty stomach I guess.
There's an expression that comes to mind w slashdot and that's take everything with a grain of salt that's said on here (the internet in general). While, I've learned some cool, but relatively useless things on here, I'd still say it suffers from the news curse and is overly negative in nature. Still, good times, helps pass time at work 4 sure:)
No you haven't, your not authorized or qualified to see anything influential, and...
1. You didn't provide a reason, so for every pt I get for being new (I'm not) you get 3 for being an idiot (you get the pts anyways, experience is gained, intelligence is given). 2. Are you a business analyst? Do you do marketing forecast? Your mom's basement and doing her taxes don't qualify you.
You can have your own opinion and your welcome to it, but don't act like you know shit about business and try to pass it on me, I assure you you don't.
I personally don't see a reason to hate them, it's like hating wal-mart for having a superior business model instead of coming up with a better one yourself.
I bring up this point because the article is strongly biast towards privacy violoation vs statistical data. Fb violating people's privacy can be truly horrible (though Idk why ppl would care who knew about the political views they posted on fb for everyone to see???), but in this case they are doing statistical data, which is completely different, and I believe can be used to help the world when used in the right light.
Coincidentally, I bet most slashdotters can't provide a valid reason (no imagination, no tinfoil) for hating any of them. And I'm accomplishing nothing by stating so besides ruffling the herd:)
Imagine this, who do you think submits all those patents? They probably have a dept. that gets paid for doing this, of course they'll try and push everything through, realizing the sad state of the patent dept. If it was your job, wouldn't you try too? It seems dumb to submit these patents, but 1. somebody's gotta eat 2. its only possible because of the flaws in the patent system, not in google's business model. In a system where the checks and balances don't add up, isn't it safe to assume that human nature would dictate taking advantage of the situation?
Technically, it's the creators of the patent system's fault for not envisioning the internet, search engines, code base, or virtual data. You can then go on to blame the government for not having a better system for revising the patent's system's faults. Or you can do nothing...
To add, Android is based off Linux~ and MOST tablets ship w that, win 7 tablets are still IT only for sanity's sake.
Well... when was the last time yahoo launched... anything major?
But incompetent corporations should?

Rofl, you sound new. No thanks to your mom for bringing another dumbshit into this world. Welcome to the internet, now gtfo.

Know thy enemy.
Or... wikipedia moves hosting and blocks the United States dropping web traffic significantly, but remember wikipedia is free.
Even so, it's unfortunate the social networks we all have come to love, don't much care...

I think ultimately the point is to know exactly where to put those car bombs...
It's the open acknowledgement that's new, not the concept. The concept existed as soon as computer a was able to talk to computer b.
Imagine the judge having to wake up in the morning to look forward to something like this.
Well said!

Futurists follow a common theme in their predictions:
1. take something that exists
2. watch some sci-fi
3. combine the 2
4. make a prediction
Thus they can't ever predict what's not there, nor can they predict inventions because they aren't inventors and don't specialize in any field.
Personally, I'm stilling waiting on somebody to invent the lightsaber, anyone?
The latter would be much more hilarious :)
Futurologists don't need a background in science, only an audience.
Coincidentally, I bet most slashdotters can't provide a valid reason (no imagination, no tinfoil) for hating any of them. And I'm accomplishing nothing by stating so besides ruffling the herd :)
There's bigger implications to google "changing its mind" on its current benevolence than patents :)

Rofl, rtfa > first line. Get them yourself.
How ever do you hold on to your birth certificate or SSN card then???

Good news! It's a suppository!
